T I (i E R TALES . . . Hiwassee ' s fighting Tigers are a+ the present in the midst of the basketball season. After starting slowly, as expect- ed, the Tigers showed steady improve- ment and are now striving to reach the .500 bracket. Facing their toughest op- position Hiwassee has now lost 3 straight but having shown that they have the ability to win, better results are antici- pated. After losing to Maryville, 34-49, Mars Hill, 36-41, and LMU, 28-61, the Tigers got in the victory column with a triumph over Hohnson Bible College, 39-21. Hi- wassee hit her stride on a road trip into Georgia. Engaging highly-favored Ogle- thorpe University, the Tigers led the Pet- rels throughout most of the game only to lose in the latter stages, 38-44. But the Red and Gold clads rebounded to overwhelm Young Harris, 83-30. They next encountered Martin College at home, winning 47-35. The Tigers displayed fine form and en- couraged the home fans. Although handicapped by neighth and inexperience they always display a never-say-die spirit. The Hiwassee lassies ' first opponent was the op-notch Pepsi-Cola sextet from Knoxville. The T gerettes were never in the lead and lost, 17-45. Hiwassee played the Pepsi-Colas in a return came at Maryville on an Infantile Paralysis pro- gram. Although they gave the Knoxville girls a closer game they lost again by a large margin, 12-39. P aying their first college aggregation the Cgerettes succumbed to the fast Martin College -earn, 15-46. The girls from down in Pulaski, Tennessee gave the home fans a real exhibition of passing and floorwork. As usual Hiwassee was led by Christine Curtis. She always ac- counts for the majority of the points accumu- lated by the Tigerettes. Meeting their main foe, the Tennessee Wes- leyan lassies, defeat was Hiwassee ' s again as they were thoroughly trounced, 15-49. The Hiwassee girls are to be praised for their game spirit and the way they take defeat in their stride and always come back for more. They are on the court because they love the game and wholesome competition. All Hiwas- seans are hoping that these fighting Tigrettes will be rewarded for their efforts in games to come. 41
