FUREIGII TUIIGUE Guten Morgen, Kinder! Wo fangen wir an? is Fraulein Ackermann's familiar question as she opens her Immensee and begins the German class. Equo froenato est auris in ore. which. when translated, means A horse is upper- most in my mind. This is what one might hear Mr. Ruddy or Mrs. Stern saying to their Latin classes, for both teachers and pupils seem to have an interest in these things called ponies A sus ordenes is what any Spanish student will answer in response to Senor Galovich or Senorita Lind's roll call. A nous la Liberte, sighs the French student wholeheartedly as he sees that there is but one more minute of class time. These statements may sound queer to the uninitiated, but after a few months of study, you too will become adept to your chosen tongue. Whether it be German, Latin, Spanish or French, each language will open to you a hitherto unknown field of literature and culture, giving you a knowledge of life in foreign countries. MRA HLDUK lIlT0 HIHTHEIIIHTIIS Did you ever figure the importance of mathematics to our present civilization? Its tentacles reach out into every field of science. It plays one of the leading roles in the life of each and every civilized man. Our modern way of life is based on ccmputations, statistics, and accurate analysis. If you would lock into any of our mathematics rooms, it might help you to visualize the importance of those bowed heads and the jumble of thoughts they contain. What was that binomial theorem now? Can't seem to get the right square root either. Well, I know I could show him that Solid theorem if I had a couple more hands. And so on until basic funda- mentals are established and confidence is acquired. Probably no Einstein will result, but with Mathematics we will be able to build the future in economics, commerce, and science, because Mathematics is the lever by which man moves the world. l 20 l MBS.
