TUIJHU IS T0fll0RR0lU'S UESTERIJHU Herodotus started something when he began re- cording the interesting picturesque, and colorful events in the life of man. Our lives, although we look to the future for our desires, are based on the past. Law, politics, ancestors, living conditions, even last week's tests, are all history in one form or another. In school our purpose is to study the bases upon which our government and social sys- tem, as well as those of others, were built. For common speaking and listening intelligence, you must develop enough insight to look for future happenings. History repeats itself, is an apt saying, and the study of its repetitions helps de- velop a more tolerant feeling toward your fellow- rnan, even if at times the outlook is too dark to penetrate. l'7l

GLIIHPSES Fllllfll THE FIIIE HRTS IJEPHRTfllEIlT Of course we all realize the importance of knowing one subject exceedingly well that we might build our 1ife's work about it. Medical men and chemists must know their science: journalists must have gram- mar and eloquence in English at their finger tips: and skilled mechanics must know their shop work. All of these sub- jects, the principles about which so many professions are built, are not alone the basis for the education of the student. The Fine Arts, music and art, may be taken with the intent to go further into those fields, but the average student is taking them only to give his education those finer touches that will mark him or her as an educated and interesting person in later life. TOP TO BOTTOM: Mrs. C. Nicklaus, Capt. Steinbach, Mrs. N. Hull, Mrs. K. Parker, Mrs. H. Kane.
