Events 29 Mississippi and the Arts Week Mississippi and the Arts Week was held in the Spring and featured many well-known artists. The week was co-sponsored by the Hinds Art, English, Music, Speech and Theatre Departments. Cinder close supervision, visitors are allowed to visit rooms in the different dormitories. Events 33 1985 MISS HINDS PAGEANT The Miss Hinds Pageant is held in the Spring and it serves as a preliminary to the Miss Mississippi Pageant. Each of the 17 girls competed in the following catagories: swimsuit, evening gown, talent, and interview. The alternates selected were: 1st — Angie Dicken, 2nd — Lisa Hoyt, 3rd — Sheila Stewart, 4th — Tammy Inman. Tammy Magnum was chosen the 1985 Miss Hinds Junior college. MISS HINDS JUNIOR COLLEGE Tammy Mangum 34 Events — — Events 35 Dances Several times during the year, dances were held at Hinds. Students also dressed in costumes for the weekly pep rally. A precision dance and drill team, the Hi-Steppers are known throughout the South for their half-time perfor- mances at college football games. A companion group to the Hinds Parade Band, the Hi-Steppers have won ac- claim at such events as New Orleans Mardi Gras Parades and balls; the National American Legion Convention in St. Louis; and the Junior Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
