This is Hinds Junior College 1961. Hinds Junior College has made ph enomenal strides in recent years. The 1961 Eagle staff has attempted to capture in words and pictures one of Hinds ' great years. We sincerely hope that this yearbook will be a great mirror which truly reflects the acts, ac- tivities, and highlights of Hinds students. The staff has pooled its ef- forts to achieve the best year- book possible. It is your year- book. We hope you like it. JEWEL AAcNAIR Editor D e d i c a t • i o n A true and brave and downright honest man! He blew no trumpet in the marketplace, Nor in the church with hypocritic face Supplied with cant the lack of Christian grace; Loathing pretense, he did with cheerful will What others talked of while their hands were still. JOHN G. WHITTIER Professor A. L. Denton He is our guidance director, our counselor, and our friend. He knows the type of work that each of us is capable of doing and tries to inspire us to develop our talents. He has a friendly word for each of us. He listens to our troubles, offers us encouragement, and gives us sound advice. He has given many years of service to Hinds Junior College. He is a former coach, dean of men, and high school principal. There is naught of the ranter, the rabble-rouser or the demagogue in Mr. Denton. He never indulges in mock heroics or cheap dramatics. During his long career as a school official there never has been an in- stance of deserved criticism. He has been firm but kind and soft-spoken. Both as a private citizen and as a school official he has kept his temper, pursued the even tenor of his way and, above all else, engaged in clear thinking before acting. We proudly dedicate the 1961 Eagle to Mr. A. L. Denton, a time- tested, true-as-steel man— exactly the ideal for a teacher, father and friend. Administration President George M. McLendon President George Minor McLendon, who is in his twenty-third year at the helm of our college, has had a strong hand on the affairs of Hinds Junior College. It has been an iron hand beneath a velvet glove. He has held the respect and confidence of the people for almost a quarter of a century. He has been at all times frank and straightforward. He has kept a cool head on sturdy shoulders. No administration in the history of Hinds Junior College has been more successful. 10 -— fc. But we ' ve already made our decision and it ' s final. Allh n Hinds ' first family Mr. Mac spends his leisure time with prize herd. A Day The McLendons entertain at tea [ ' , ' i ' r T : As F. M.
