TH] 7 H d AGLE, 1 HINDS JUNIOR COLLEGE ay ml© net, i lassissippi Mrs. Conlee explains term papers to Jerome Hammond. Marshall Gurley and Joe Lindigrin with a friend who wi exhibit Mammalian Characteristics. Nothing like a helpful push, eh Tommy? Mr. Patrick claims Seward could have bought Alaska much cheaper if he had been a better horse trader. Is it legal Miss Herrin??? Study hour??? Your bid! Signing out It is with sadness that we bid a fond farewell to a friend who has worked for many long years here at Hinds Junior College. Her life has been devoted to the Christian guidance and care of young people. She will long be remembered for her kind and gentle voice, and a personality as radiant as the summer sun. It is to such a worthy lady as this that we, the Eagle Staff, dedicate this issue to Miss Gertrude Davis— our Mother away from home. And now abideth faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. I Corinthans 13:13 FACULTY PRESIDENTS MESSAGE COOPERATION: Any history of Man includes the great ideas or philosophies that engaged the attention of the mind of Man and which motivated some of Man ' s bitterest struggles and his greatest acts of love. Few times in history have men struggled so fiercely to conquer the minds of fellow men as in the present age. We who believe that our philosophy which sets the highest value on the individual in comparison to State represents the apogee in human relations must never forget that not fierce competi- tion but cooperation has made it possible for us to achieve the high standard of living that we enjoy and for which all other nations of the earth hunger. Jones Rides High With Undefeated Record In JC Loop The Hinds Junior College Eagles, still looking for their first win of the season, journeyed down to Ellisville Saturday where they will meet the undefeated Jones Bob- cats. Through the years the Eagles have managed a 14-11-3 record with the Bobcats with Jones taking the last ' three out of four games. This series began back in 1929 when Hinds took the first contest 12-6. Jones, the only team undefeated except Pearl River, had last week off while Hinds lost to Northwest 20-0. Jones is looking for the foot- ball title this year with only Pearl River in the way. The showdown game between Jones and Pearl River, which will probably deter- mine the Junior College Football Championship, is set for October 24 at Ellisville. Renfroe ' s Eagles Vie For First Win Against Moorhead The Sunflower Trojans invade Eagle Stadium tomorrow night to represent the last opposition for the Hinds Junior College Eagles in the 1959 football season. Although this game ends the sea- son for the Eagles, Sunflower faces Perkinston next week for their last encounter. In the past 25 games the Eagles have won 12 games against Sun- flower while they have lost ten and tied three. Hinds leads in total points scored with 457, while the Trojans have tallied 305. Beginning with three straight tournament wins over East Central, Holmes, and again over the Warriors of East Central, the Hinds bounceballers copped the first athletic trophy of the current school year by taking top honors in the Holmes Holiday Tournament. After adding two more victories to the Eagle string, the undefeated Ray- mond cagers faced the Mississippi State frosh in a double header with the varsity of Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech but went down to their first defeat, 89-57. Revenging the only Eagle setback, a new win streak began with a three point margin victory over the Decatur five, for the third straight time this season. Other wins during this streak came over East Mississippi, 65-64; Southwest, 84-58; Sunflower, 95-61; Pearl River, 71-60; and Perkinston, 85-73. If at first you don ' t succeed, try and try again. But the Hinds cagers still needed another try after the Eagles suffered their worst setback on the birdsmen home court, 101-69, at the hands of the freshmen of Mississippi State. This loss haulted the six-game win streak of Hinds and marked the second loss to State ' s freshmen. Clark, Holmes, and Copiah-Lincoln were the next victims of Hinds as the Eagles racked up their twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth victories of the season. The Eagles had little trouble with the Clarke five as they tore into the Clarke defense with a 91-64 score. The Holmes and Co-Lin wins were a little harder to gain as Hinds tallied in the last few minutes to come out on top, 57-53 and 79-62 respectively. The high-flying Eagles turned back the East Central Warriors for the fourth time this season as they took a 89-84 decision in the Raymond gym. The second weekend tilt saw East Mississippi fall to defeat, 82-60, before a much more experienced Hinds five.
