WJMHMBM edicattatt In recognition of the courage and persistence of our President in con- tinuing a program of growth and improvement of Hinds Junior College, we of the annual staff dedicate this issue of THE EAGLE to Mr. G. M. McLen- don. We know that it was the trust he has earned by the Board of Trustees and Board of Supervisors that made it possible for us to enjoy the fine new buildings that grace our campus. To Mr. McLendon and the Boards, we say Thanks, and best wishes for the future. Student pacuftct (2 u tciC Left to right: Dan Martin, Freshman Rep. ; Bill Bridges. Sophomore Rep.; Norma Owens. V ' - Our Home Economics and Mathematics departments can pinch hit for anything! LOYALTY In recent years the term loyalty has been used, confused, and abused. It has been a test of fitness for government service; it has been a test of character for prisoners of war; it has been a test of worthiness of teachers in the schools; and it has been applied to students as a prerequisite to entering those schools. All of these ideas imply that loyalty is pertinent to good citizenship in the small or large community of which a person is a part. We easily under- stand loyalty to a friend to mean protecting his name and reputation and helping him when he needs help. We would also wish to develop in our students further realization that loyalty means active par- ticipation in achieving the highest goals that we set in our schools, businesses, and governments; that for every criticism there should be a constructive suggestion offered with courtesy and in sincerity; and that loyalty requires a strong character based on honesty, faith, and a deep understanding of the needs of humanity.
