' The success or failure of a football season is not always determined by the number of wins stacked up against the number of losses. There are other factors involved in the playing of this great game — factors that many cannot under- stand because they are not out there blocking and tackling, but factors that the boys never forget. Sometimes you practice weeks on a play that you ' re sure will go some Saturday night. You grind and grind the play — working all the rough spots out. It takes plenty of drive and courage to stick out the hours and hours of practice — and even more courage when you test a play under game conditions. Sweat- ing and tiring work is this stuff of football. Then that Saturday night is here and the time and place for the play is per- fect. Everything goes off all right, but a substitute halfback on the other team just won ' t do what he should. There are times when a play really clicks, and you move for yardage. It ' s a good feeling to have the breaks in your favor — a feeling that puts life into a block and determination into a running back. Still you can never be sure of what will happen in this game of games. Always you will see a questioning look on the face of a player or coach. L. Denton ' s Ea gles finished an impres- sive season with sixteen wins and only two losses. Comparatively small, but full of spirit and the will to win, they entered the tournament at Popularville, a much favored team. There, Sena- tobia defeated them very unexpectedly in the second round of play. Nick Revon was selected for All-State honors while Bobby Haywood and Mickey Crossin received honorable mention. Coaches W. H. Gibbs and A. L. Denton The Eaglettes, under the coaching of Walter Gib bs, paced the- Junior College League through an exciting season. The girls lost only one game this year for the first defeat in two years. The Girls Tournament was held at Hinds and proved a thrilling spectacle. The team finished in first place defeating Ellisville in the finals. On the All-State list were Dot Harrison, Jill Ray, and Betsy Warren. A telegraphic meet was held with the University of California who lost by a very few points.
