NOMINATING COMMITTEE The nominating committee showed great discref tion this year in their choice of fourteen reliable and capable candidates for the student body officers. Heading this committee was Marilyn VVence and working with her were: Paul Shiraishi, Emilio Ko' mae, sophomoresg Elaine Yano, Roy Nakamoto. jun- iors and Martha Luna. senior. Deciding which students would make good offi- cers and considering the office they fitted best were the major duties that these six performed. INSTALLATION COMMITTEE I-, do solemnly swear to-. These words of determination and willingness to serve were earnestly repeated by the new student body officers for the year 1951-1952 at a special assembly on March 6. With Agnes Fuiioka as chairman, the committee worked hard to plan and supervise this impressive ceremony. The newly installed officers were President George Yuda, First Vice-President Richard Shimabu- kuro, Second Vice-President Helen Kawachika. Sec- retary Katherine Blickhahn, and Treasurer Katherine Takimoto. Winifred Amai, Yuriko Murai, and Tadashi Yoa shizawa assisted Agnes. AMENDMENT COMMITTEE WVorking like beavers, the Amendment Commit- tee of three. Sumie Hisanaga. Marilyn Wence. and Ernest Kurohara. revised the by-laws of the Hilo High Student Association Constitution this year. All year long under the advisorship of Mrs. Sarah W. Putnam and Ah Kong Chun the committee mem- bers submitted a great many amendments that were passed by the Student Council. FLAG COMMITTEE Full honors were given to our flag daily, weather permitting. by the members of the Flag Committee. The boys on this committee were Raymond Sakumoto. George Kumano, Elliot Koyanagi, Paul Misaka, and Roy Yonemura. ACCIDENT COMMITTEE Meeting a few times this year, the Accident Com- mittee decided how much money should be paid to students who were injured while performing some duty for the school. The board is made up of four teachers and three students. Heading the committee was Miss Scott. school nurse. The other faculty members were Mr. Nakamu- ra. Mr. Hisanaga. and Mrs. Finlayson, Sumie Hisana- ga. George Kadoguchi. and Samuel Sakamal-ti repre- sented the senior, junior and sophomore classes re- spectively. The committee's annual allotment of 15500 is ap- propriated from the funds realized from the sale of messenger service Christmas stamps each year. ELECTION COMMITTEE NVith loyce Miyamoto as chairman. the election committee undertook the difficult task of supervising the student body election. Among their numerous iobs were typing lists of eligible voters, printing the ballots. conducting the voting. and directing the election rally. where the campaign managers introduced their can- didates to the student body. The balloting on February 20, resulted in outright election of the president only. Consequently, a final election was held on February 23 to decide the rest of the student body officers.
