In September, 1950, began the real tasks of the officers of the Hilo High Student Association. A fresh school year loomed, with numerous and varied duties and responsibilities. Regular student council meetings were held every other Wednesday, special meetings whenever necessary. ADVISERS Mrs. Sarah Putnam, Miss Mary Genung, and Mr. Ah Kong Chun again served as mentors to the student council. Without their wise guidance the student coun- cil would not have been able to function as proficient- ly as it did. The advisers were always on hand with sound advice whenever troubled council members needed it. --.2 Pre-mf. ' Kofi Il, 'Ulla Student Pilots ELETED OFFICERS Friendly and congenial Koji Ikeda, as president of the student body, led the council. Already an ex- perienced officer and leader, this year, as secretary of the Big Island Student Government Association, Koji assumed new duties. He was also active in the Future Farmers of America organization. George Yuda, first vice president, was a class rep- resentative during his sophomore year. This year, a major part of his responsibility was preparing the budget of the student association. The official hostess of the student body was Sec- ond Viee President Mae Torigoe. During her first two years at Hilo High, Mae served as class representative. This year, she and her reception committee, under the guidance of Miss Hawea Brown, welcomed vis- itors to Hilo High School, and made flower and paper leis for visiting school teams. Another service performed by this efficient committee was ushering at various occasions, one of which was the Iva Kitchell concert. Ruth Sakakihara, secretary, was another conscien- tious olficer. Some of her duties were keeping the min- utes and the roll of every council meeting, and First Vice-President George Yutla, Second Vice-President Mae Torigoe, Secretary Ruth Sakakillara, Treasurer George Mizuguchi.
