Jumping for Joy Jumping: an upward exertion of energy. This physical activity was observed around Hillsborough this past year. In science classes students learned the velocity and acceleration of jumping. However, students didn't keep it on a technical level. In fact, they used jumping in a variety of ways. Ofen one found them displayq ing their happiness over the football team by jumping in the stands. Or perhaps they were seen jumping while dancing and even par- ticipating in track. Jumping allowed students to release their extra energy before going to class. Thus jumping was an important aspect of the students' social and school activities. 1- Sophomore Leaders The 1985-1986 Sophomores began their work the moment they were elected into office. Under the leadership of their class president, Carmen Turner, vice president, Asex Gon- zalez, secretary, Melissa Bautista, and treasurer, Nelson Delvalle. For the sophomore class it has been an exceptional and pro- ductive year. Through endless hours of hard work and will- ingness to learn the sophomores have achieved an under- standing of how a class should be run. Even through they were constantly being reminded that they were underclassmen, they displayed their unending pride and spirit by attending all school functions such as the football games, choral presentations and other school related activities. They also became involved in school clubs and sports. One of the main reasons the sophomore class felt they were a part of the school was due to their class leaders. But typically inferiority played a major role in the sophomore's life. A tradition carried out by the seniors and juniors to show their superiority is to make the sophomores kiss the H. The activities that the sophomore class officers participated in were the Hilsborean Dance, Spirit Week, and selling flowers for the dance. They helped during their lunch hour to sell Hilsborean tickets. Also, they helped distribute flyers on Spirit Week along with the other class officers. They aided in the organization of the events that were to take place during Spirit Week and at the dance. Among all the different activities the Sophomore Class Of- ficers participated in they showed much school spirit and dedication. With each other's teamwork and cooperation, the sophomore class accomplished great deeds to lead them into the next year. I 2 . Q 198 f Sophomores Ti,xkSrQv QV' -t , Htl., Yk'!lt, I.
