MR. WAYNE HAMILTON As Assistant Principal and Director of Student Activities, Mr. Wayne Hamilton has become well known to all Hillsborough. Because he understands the problems of young people and tries to help them, he has made many students his friends. Mr. Ham- iIton's native town was Crawfordsville, Indiana, where he was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School. He received his A.B. degree from Wabash College and his M.A. degree from Columbia University. He has attended the University of Florida, the Uni- versity of Colorado, and Butler University. ln l925 he came to Hillsborough as an English teacher. ln i928 he became head of the English Department and served in that position for I5 years. A patriotic citizen, he joined the U. S. Navy in l943, where he attained the rank of Lt. Commander. Upon his return to Hillsborough in I946, he took his present position as Assistant Principal and Director of Student Activities. MISS JANE DOWDELL Dowdy, Miss Jane Dowdell, is one of the most beloved person- alities at Hillsborough. Noted for her friendliness and cooperation in student activities, Miss Dowdell has won the admiration of the student body and faculty alike. Born in Wimauma, Florida, she was graduated from Wimauma High School. She received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from the Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. During her first years of teaching, she was a member of the faculty at Plant City High School, where she taught physical education and biology, later she taught at Orange Grove School. Twelve years ago she came to Hillsborough, where for two years she taught biology before becoming the Dean of Girls. MR. FRANK CARPENTER Friendly and poised, Mr. Frank Carpenter, Assistant Principal and Dean of Boys, immediately gains the confidence and respect of all the boys he comes in contact with daily. Because he under- stands teen-age problems and tries to help the students, he has become a favorite on the campus. A native of Muncie, Indiana, Mr. Carpenter is a graduate of Central High School. After re- ceiving his B.S, and M.A. degrees from Ball State Teachers College in Muncie, Indiana, he remained there for two years to teach psychology. Upon coming to Florida he taught one year at Plant City High School and two years at Memorial Junior High. In l95l he came to Hillsborough and assumed his present position as Assistant Principal and Dean of Boys. Ham, Dowdy, and Carp MR. MR. VIVIAN GAITH ER Principal For over twenty years, every student that has graduated from Hillsborough High School has felt the influence of Mr. Gaither. Af- ter receiving his early education in Tallassee, Alabama, he earned his BS. at Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, and later, his MA. at Columbia University in New York City. Before com- ing to Hillsborough Mr. Gaither, after some years of teaching in Alabama and Georgia, held the position of principal at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, Franklin Junior High School, and Plant Senior High School. Mod- est and unassuming, yet poised and efficient, Mr. Gaither is highly respected by faculty and students alike. He is a man of integrity, is honest, God-fearing, and just.
