The space in this annual is not suiTieient to give all the interesting details but a brief skctch will give the reader an idea of what a remarkable group of boys and girls is leaving the doors of Hillsborough forever. In the fall of 1933, happy and carefree after a five months vacation, the majority of the Rats who were to form this class entered Hillsborough six hun- dred strong. It was not long before they were actively engaged in school activities. Many athletes were dis- covered to strengthen the football and basketball teamsg brilliant students immediately gained the ad- miration of the faculty, talented musicians boosted the size of the orchestra, and capable student council representatives looked after the general welfare of the class. The following year the most outstanding work in the class was done by the athletes, Roy Lit Velasco, Alfred Massey, Wilson Buddy,' Waggoner, and others. Lit, a second year man, gained the position of quarterback on the All-State football team and added to his record his second football, basketball, and base- ball 'iH's. Al Massey and Buddy Waggoner were first year men who furnished valuable new material and formed a nucleus for the next year's team. During the junior year the student leaders were Lyvonne Clinton, who served as secretary of the Student Council the first semester and Kenneth Vernon,. as treasurer during the second semester. However, almost Q25 everyone up to this time had spent his time studying so that when the long anticipated senior year arrived, a good time could be had by all. A goot time it has certainly turned out to be! Our football team ended the season with a thrilling victory over Plant, the Red and Black was revived with Caroline Edwards as its capable editor, plans were successful for publishing a larger annual, and the members of the class gained even more coveted honors. Lyvonne Clinton, who served as president of the Student Council for the first semester, brought great praise upon our class just recently by winning first place in piano in the State Music Festival. Wilson Waggoner, president of the Student Council the sec- ond semester, besides being a fine football player, served as Junior Rotarian for our class, while Le Roy Sweat, another excellent footballer, as well as a fine musician, leader, student and actor, served as Junior Kiwanian. Bernie Adelson, with an average of 95.82 for his high school career was awarded the honor of valedictorian of the class, while Robert Kasriel was the next in rank with 95.65. The boys also attained class oflices for Phil Torres was president, Frank Klein, vice-president, and Kenneth Vernon as treasurer, whereas one girl, Katherine Graham was secretary. Jimmie O'Neal as Cadet Colonel of the ROTC Unit, Alfred Massey as captain of the football team gained more laurels for the boys. In rapid succession the class play, banquet, baccalaureate, and graduation furnished lasting remem- brances for the mighty seniors, who each, we are hoping, will be very successful in whatever career he chooses. by KATHERINE GRAHAM. -..sq 26 Ee..-
