...tg e lhjlilisabtoblttreataliolq 365 i r - fig, CLIFFOKIJ WALLACE EVELYN LIGHTSEY Prr'sidr'l1l Vice- Prcsidrnl LYDIA PALENZUELA Gnoitois HAYMAN Secretary Treasurer Class Histor A dictionary contains many words. Oh! How easy my task of Historian would be, could I present each reader with a dictionary from which he could select for himself all the flattering words one needs to narrate our illustrious career! Alas-I must choose the proper words for you, and modesty necessitates my choice must not be too lavish. Three short years ago! Then we came rollicking into Hills- borough High. What a bewildered lot of scrawny, wide-eyed, untrained Sophomorcs we were! However, we gaily washed off the mercurichrome, lipstick, and crayon which proclaimed to the world that we were Rats, and settled down to our real task of studying. And, to prove our efforts were not in wain, we added many names to the Honor Roll. We started our junior year more dignified and more self- assured. The year of graduation seemed less remote. With pride we were ready to demonstrate our superiority to the in- coming Sophomores. fOr-did we unbend our dignity when we helped bluntly to label these newcomers Rats. j Again we built up our successful achievements by adding more names to the Honor Roll and the following names to the Foot- ball, Baseball, Track and Tennis teams: Kenneth Adelberg, football '54, '35, track '35, Bill Roberts, football '35, Billy Harris, fbotball '35, Miguel Laca, baseball '35, john Ayala, tennis '34, captain '35. At last we were Seniors. With newly assumed dignity we faced the real task of our career-how to entice a lovely red and black bound diploma from our faculty and at the same time escape the irksomc task of writing examination papers! And what an education we have!-To begin with- We have learned that N. J. Strickland is our class crook. We have learned that Kenneth Adelberg is a grand dancer. We have learned that Cynthia Faris is our Math shark. We have learned that Peter Lauria has a perfect profile. And, that our school is the Finest school there is, with a fine principal, an exceptional faculty, and that Hillsborough High School is so full of memories, it will be a mighty sad experience leaving it. The class officers were elected with Clifford Wallace, presi- dent, Evelyn Lightsey, vice-president, Lydia Palenzuela, sec- retary and George Hayman, treasurer. During this last semester, many other of our classmates attained high honors. George Hayman, in addition to being a fine cheerleader, was selected as junior Rotarian, vice-president of the Student Council and was toast-master at the Senior banquet. During his three years here, George represented his class every semester on the Student Council. Vernon Moore proved to everyone his ability as a journalist by his successful work as news editor of the Rea' and Black. Graduation night he received the greatly coveted American Legion Medal. John Coniglio, president of the Honor Society, distinguished himself as a student and became Valedictorian of the class. Kenneth Adelberg, as an athlete, brought fame upon the school by his selection as tackle on the All-State football team at the end of last season. There are numerous others but our space is too limited to give to each the recognition each deserves. Thus our history is so far no different than that of all other classes which have been a part of Hillsborough High. But, our hope is now-to make our future better, more spectacular, perhaps, more admired. We are looking For- ward- by LYDIA PA1.uNzu12i.A. -...,g+ 13 E+..-
