TEACHER ACTIVITIE A teacher harvesting on his summer vacation? W. K. Mackey, shop teacher, operated a combine as part of his job following a harvesting team. This was only one of the varied activities of the Hillcrest faculty during the past summer. Working in department stores and filling stations, in our city parks as recreational supervisors and for a wholesale grocery company kept several Hillcrest teachers occupied. Woodrow Keahey, math teacher, and Stoney Cayce, coach, were kept busy in the armed forces. Mr. Keahey visited Florida via a naval cruise. Wally Gursch, history teacher, won a gold watch for superior salesmanship while working for an insurance company. Quieter pursuits occupied J. C. Mitchell and other faculty members, who worked in their gardens. Teachers who went abroad during the summer were Mrs. Claire Cunningham, who vacationed in Mexico, and Mrs. Katherine Taylor and Miss Judy Kinney, who visited Europe. Although this may sound like the feminine side of the faculty is the more traveled, several of our men teachers have visited Europe and the South Pacific during World War Il as special employees of Uncle Sam. lot of fresh air and Mr. Mackey got a ' ' mmer. SU nshine from his Job last su Miss Marie Faust indulged in her favorite hobby, mountain climbing, and added several new peaks to her long list. Louis Moore also did some mountain climbing, but describes his type as the tame variety and remains content to hold the net for Miss Faust's more dangerous exploits. George Neal, who has his Master's Degree from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, continued his studies there last summer and visited Niagara Falls with his family.
