Stanley Knapp, then principal, and Mrs. Lillian Spruce, the club in- cludes the top orators in the school. The Debate Club journeys to many invitational tournaments as well as vying with local competition. Devotionals are given each morning, consisting of a Scripture reading, a brief meditation, and a closing prayer, alternately by the members of each denomination. Faculty and students must agree that these devotional programs have added much to a day at school. The members of this year's Committee hope that the future growth of Hillcrest will promote a paralleled growth in the devotionals and the Devotional Committee. The junior division of the Red Cross is doing an invaluable part in this world-wide organization both in working with the seniors and carrying on their own activities. The Hillcrest Dads Club was oganized in 1945 and is becoming more and more im- portant as our school grows larger. The membership of the club has grown in number more than ever before during the past two years. This year with the help of Hillcrest students, the Dads Club has reached a new high with a membership of 315 dads. The Dads Club's purpose is to create a closer relationship between the dads and the school. They wish to sponsor such things as band uniforms, cheerleader jackets, trans- portation facilities, debate trips, and other useful contributions. The Dads Club has programs through the year which include student participation programs. They urge the classes at Hillcrest to make suggestions to the Dads Club and hope to have students come before them during the year with suggestions and prob- lems. This year the Dads Club has adopted the Public Address System project for our new school. They urge students, parents, teachers, and the community to help in carrying through this important project. Some of its many aims are to create a closer relationship between home and school, to help the parents understand school curriculum, and to promote the Wel- fare of the child in home, school, church, and community. The P.-T.A. has a variety of programs in order to fulfill its aims. Among its yearly activities there are several out- standing. They have speakers to lecture on the needs of the adolescent, student speakers, panels to discuss juvenile problems, and programs presented by different departments within the school. Founder s Day in February is marked by a special program. The P.-T.A. sponsors a Spring Dance, besides its usual soc hops, publishes a Directory, and embarks on special projects for betterment of the school.
