They were very happy in their little home with no one to bother them. one day mama bear cooked some porrldge, but lt was too hot to eat so the three bears went for a stroll in the woods. As they passed under an old oak tree, the beautiful songs of four lit- tle birds could be heardg Judy Miller, joe Bond, Betty Erick- son, and Edward Zbylot. Their songs seemed to paralyze the woods. The three bears strolled still on until they came to a small brook. It was filled W1th,Sma1l fishy some we recog- nize as being jane Charles, Edgar Hale, Marjorie Manning, and Bryant Scalf. And over on the bank sat a big green frog whom they TDOUQHE was Bill Yetter. The scene now changes, and we see a little girl lost from her poor mother and daddy: Sarah Bush and Paul Powell. she 1s on her way to her grandmother's, Gloria Easley. The chatter ls made by five little squirrels Curtis Williamson, Clare Whitcomb, Dorothy Thomas, Shirley Dieterich, and jack Norton asfthey feather their nests with nuts to last through the cold winter that is to come. They hurry on toward home when whom do you think they meet? None other than some of their old school cubsg Eugene Spillman, Mary Martha Mayes, jimmy Scott, Evelyn Lawrence, Edward Joyce, and -the twins bears, joan and Marinan Graham After a short chat, they part and soon reach home. Vi HIGHLIGHTS ON FOOTBALL and the PANTHERS On the bright, sunny night of September 26th, the Panther Team of the Vickery-Hillcrest High School was very unfortunate in their first game of the season. They battled with Forney, and lost with a score of 27 to 13. October the 3rd was a bright, rainy day with plenty of water everywhere. The Pep Squad couldn't attend the game so the Pan- ther's spirits were low. They lost to Lancaster with a score of 34 to 0. Q By October the 10th, we were beginning to get better, and soon we'll slip up on a victory. Wilmer-Hutchins scored a 7 to 0 victory. On October 24th, we did slip up on a Victory for Vickvry. We beat Irving with a score of 19 to 7. We must be improving. We were still riding high when, on November the 7th, we made 19 points to Grand Prairies' 12. Another Victory for Us. Richardson beat us with a score of 27 to , but we don't talk about that. Reserved for Next Year Besides those on the bench, we have Coach Mitchell on the Beaten Path. Erfuwn, 'lietm-ich The Vickery-Hillcrest feminine basketmball team of '42 displayed great skill this year by taking 10 out of 16 of the conference games that were played. This Panther girlsg team scored a total of 320 points to their opponents total of 313. Although very much cooperation and smoothness in working the ball on the part of the whole team was shown, this team produced several stars which will long be remembered in the minds of the students of V. H. H. S. The high-point pantheress was Doris Green with a total of 249 points. She broke the records of any individual scoring in the Vickery-Hillcrest history. Qn the other half of the court, Mozell Blakely, was the star guard and displayed much skill and effectiveness. The Vickery-Hillcrest High School and community are very proud of this team who added history to our school which will long be remembered. - The Vickery-Hillcrest Boys' Basketball team won first place in our district this year. They lost only two games this season, and we hope our boys? luck will continue so that they may go to Austin. The high-point man for the season was Hollis Hogan with a total of 203 points. Out of the faithful 5 who marched to Victory this year, Ben Gossett is the only one left behind for next year's team.How- ever, that does not mean that the rest of the team will not be back to support next yearfs team. We can never forget 429s team and their excellent record. We also cannot forget the coaching of Mr. Mitchell. While the crowds roared, He sat alone seeming to be entirely at ease. . Now that we have come to the end of the season for both boys and girls, we find'that the Boys? team stands in first place, while the girls are not far behind, in 2nd place. HURRAH!!! HURRAHE!! ff NX 2 -4 . .- xv 'f We, the staff of the 'Panther' wish to thank the student body for the splended cooper- ation of each and everyone.
