The 1972 Marching Ram Band It seems like the marching band gets better every year. This year they were led onto the field by Drum Major Brian Mitchell. Their high-stepping spirit brought on loud cheers of approval from the stands. Our director D. A. Miller provided the incentive that made the band great. A band from the Detroit area was invited to share a half-time with us and added a new style of marching that was bright and impressive . The 1972 Cross- country team once again made the school proud of them. This year their stunning record of 12 and 2 truly earned the respect of the student body. Through the vigorous efforts of coach Shinabarger and the team our Cross- country maintained its fine reputation throughout the league. Un Jig i ' ' iiM Mhii d f ' . ,, ' ' :.-!y,ih ' i$ ,khiA ' iaii:k-: Fine running and teammanship helps a lot in capturing a county B title and this years Cross- Country team had both. The team ' s fine running and teammanship was evident as the team clinched the county B trophy and narrowly missed sending the whole team to the state meet. The honors rolled in one after another during this year ' s successful wrestling season. While the team had several individual stars, they were able to work as a team and this was probably their greatest asset. The story of this team is a championship story and the Montrose grapplers had a truly championship season. Here we see the team members at work, at play, and receiving some advice from their coach. The end result is quite evident as Jeff Byers overtakes his opponent. KNEELING: Craig Destrampe, Bob Brown, Dan Reinhart, John Doerr, John Harrow - Manager. This year ' s Varsity Basketball team turned out to be one of mixed performances. While many of their games seemed to be flawless, the team failed to win. To many, the fault did not lie entirely with the team but with bad officiating and other circumstances as well. In any case the team instilled pride in the student body for their fine efforts . Shoot it johnny boy. Practice makes perfect. Now whose ball is it? I hope this is the right basket. Varsity Speedball Has Good Year r?J?1 j 4 . ??s- ;. - v- -; The Varsity Speedball season record looked unimpressive - they won 4 and lost 4 - and they finished third in the league. However, there are also some very impressive statistics. They set a new school record for points scored in one game - 28 points against Lakeville. Brenda Pyre tied a school record for points scored in one game by one person - 10 points. Patti Marston was the high point scorer for the team this season with 27. The team this year consisted of 8 seniors and 15 juniors.
