The following is what they reported: Max Chrivia is teaching chemistry at Montrose. I-le follows the teaching method used by his former teacher--- If you can't convince 'em, confuse 'em. Laurene Rice has invented a patent medicine guaranteed to cure all ills. She calls it DRAWROF . QThat's forward spelled backward., Mary Lou Dowd has finally realized her most treasured dream. She has consolidated the groups of Future Farmers and I-Iomemakers. A new restaurant has been opened in Montrose by our two most promising businessmen, Jim Hackney and Jim Harris. Oddly enough, it's called Iim's Diner . Research scientist Dick Larkin has proved that there is a definite link between cars and gasoline. Jerry Keely is an ace TV writer for comedian Jerry Hoskins. The script is based entirely on their experiences when they took a trip to Africa to do some big game hunting. Nancy Larkin and Nancy Haines are still trying to solve a few of the wor1d's problems, which presents another puzzle: Which one should they solve first? Joyce McNeill has started her own bank in Montrose with past experience in lending money. Vice President is, of course, Chuck. New Defense Secretary Don Yeaster is promoting a guided missile program which will include paper wads. Dr. Richard Beardslee has reported that he is nearing the climax of his 20 year study of the dreaded cold germ. Jerry Papineau, explorer, has recently uncovered the ancient remains of a lowly type of Pith- ecantmpus Erectus. Norm Diem and George Price, famous mathematicians, made the revolutionary discovery that 2 plus 2 equals 5. Marlene Wagner, their assistant, is still working to find out what 3 plus 3 equals. Dick Westfall is the inventor of a mechanism able to do all types of work. fToo bad he didn't think of it sooner., Virginia Sellers finally landed a job at the Metropolitan Opera House. She's working as head usher Jack Leineke is an executive. He's in charge of the whole works at the local doughnut factory. Lorraine Whitney has proven herself on television. She interrupts the commercial to being a short portion of the program. Mary Diem, in reaching for greater heights, has organized her own basketball team entitled, SKY-SCRAPERS . Not wanting to be outdone, Betty Spencer has discovered oil under Montrose High School. She always maintained that education pays for itself . Shirley Taylor, with the help of Lynn, has started a competitive business for Farmer Peet. There are also several junior partners. Word has just reached us that the quiz program, Make It or Break It has been broken by none other than Sharon O'Del1. M.C. John Cherry said it couldn't be done. Maynard Reed has the teen-age set spinning with his new picture, ROCK IT TO Tl-IE MOON . Co-starring with him is Ellen Cummings, who has just finished a movie in Paris fTexasj. Nothing daunted, Ruth Powers has launched a program to add a few more states to the Union. These naturally include Mars, Venus, and the Moon. Bertha De Sander is chief dietician of the Vitamin Club in Flint. Newly elected president Ron Shook says the food is excellent. We now see Joyce Britton happily married to Gordy, of comse, and teaching a course in Home Ec. in Montrose. Speaking from long experience, she teaches her class how to have a perfect pajama party. Richard Burkett has a booming business maldng pink absence slips for Montrose High School principal lone Sharpe. Lois Bechtel has just made a new smash recording called Jeannie With the Light Blonde Hair written by Dennis. Donna Beedy has proven to Bill that two can live as cheaply as one . The trouble is, there are now eight! Ken Biggs has turned a hobby into a profitable occupation. He is now top driver at the jalopy races. Head grease monkey, Stan Knuth, also teaches government at Montrose. Bette Burleson is now private secretary and can only be seen by appointment as this job keeps her busy. Bob Waters has used his Montrose training and jumped across the Grand Canyon. His able press agent is Jim Lovasz, who previously set a record for racing from the altar the greatest number of times. We see that Bill Keys is now coaching basketball in Montrose. Because of his star player, Fearless Fred Ryker, they are rated highest in the Big Ten. Pat Porter has finished her dream house. She and Howard have finally set the date. Even though Margaret Scanlon flunked out of college, she has a full time position raising her own little collegiates. Joe Keys is a world-famed scientist and is, at present, engaged in finding something to cure headaches. Carl Nicholas, tired of being called Shorty has commissioned shoe repairman Don Seelye the job of putting higher platforms on his shoes. Dave Polcik and Frank Piechnik are co-owners of the Chicago Stockyards. Seems a little experience goes a long way. Harold Crane is head of a caravan crossing the Sahara. His chief supporter is none other than George Tarrant. They're setting up lemonade stands for tired camels. Pat Leach and Barbara Parks have started their own garage. It seems their cars have been costing them too much for repairs lately. Carol Donaski is still trying to fly to the moon in her piper cub. Co-polit, Nancy Henry, is ready to call it quits and try her hand at something else. CLASS HISTORY 9th 11th Officers: Officers: Pres. Jim Harris Pres. jerr Hoskins V. Pres. Dick Larkin V. Pres. Student Council is an organization created for the purpose of having students and faculty work together more closely and so that each may see the problems of the other and talk them out completely. This year the Student Council has created a gift fund for hospital ridden students. Also the members have made plans for a talent assembly and possibly a panel assembly consisting of students and teachers. Before this year is out, the Student Council hopes to have an outside bulle- tin case where events of the coming weeks will be posted. verly ernck, annual staff First row: Marg Keys NHDCL Haines, Ruth Powers, Nancy Larldn Mar? This year, as every year, the Montrose High School librarians attended the Genesee County Slamm meet, held at Fenton Community Center. This is a type of workshop where librarians from all over Genesee County learn new methods of mending, poster displays, and proper care of books. Our librarians put out a wonderful poster display. It was complimented highly. At this meeting we elected officers for 1958. Carolyn Keith was elected treasurer. This year we have 28 librarians. Because of this we now have both Junior and Senior librarians. The purpose of the French club is to create a more lasting interest in the French language through a lcnowledge of the people who speak it, to instill sympathetic understanding and respect for the problems that France faces, its traditions, customs, and the progress it has made. At the present time the members of the club have participated in French games, parties, and uses of French records. The French club hopes to take several trips in the future, educational as well as for pleasure. DEECI1 vf' First row: Mary Diem, Miss Pottier Max Chrivia. Montrose High School held their first speech debate on Wednesday, October 23, 1957. The only schools who participated out of the four planned were Montrose and Lakeville. The discussion was on Foreign Aid. The speech class this year prepared speeches for the Voice of Democracy Contest and read them over t.he P.A. system. The judges picked the winners. The first place winner will compete in a regional contest. The regional winners will then compete for State awards and next in the National contest. The four winners of the National contest will read their speeches over television. These contests include interpretive and humorous readings, decla- mation, extemporaneous speaking and original oratory. The purpose of t.he Voice of Democracy Contest is to encourage young people to thin.k about the great democracy we live in. It is under the direction of the varsity cheerleaders and their sponsor Miss Poling. The purpose of this group is to promote better student cheering at the games and instill a pride for the great job which the various teams perform throughout the year in competitive sports. With approximately seventy-five members in the group, several different ideas were tried. New cheers were learned and then they began to form block letters to be used at the games. The cheerleaders have done a great job of helping this group along and they are looking forward to next year when they hope more students will go to the meetings and to the games. at' Left to right: Tim Caster Stan Piechnik, Lynn Polla.rd Tom Hall, Don Seelye, Dave Polcik, Carol Donaski, Elaine Papineau, Carolyn 'Keith, Mala!
