With the coming of fall, plans were made for the 1959 football season. September 18 Highmore's Pirates opened their grid season by hosting Gettysburg. They were defeated by the Battlers 14-0 who scored in the second and fourth quarters. September 26 The Ipswich Tigers showed too much power as they scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and went on to win 39-6. October 2 The Miller Rustler's completed a successful Homecoming Day by defeating the Pirates 21-7. October 9 Despite a large home crowd for Homecoming Festivities, the Pirates succumbed to a power- ful Wessington Springs team 33-7. The game was closer than the score indicates and the Pirates were very much in the game until the fourth quarter. The score was knotted 7-7 at the half and Springs had only a 13-7 advantage at the close of the third quarter. October 16 The Pirates ended their 4-game losing streak with an 18-0 victory over the Eureka Trojans. All of Highmore's touchdowns were scored in the first half. October 23 The Mobridge Tigers wiped out a 12 point lead by Highmore to go on to win 35-12. October 30 The Pirates traveled to Faulkton for the last game of the season but were beaten 33-7. This gave the Pirates an overall 1-6-0 record. WE RECORD THEY 0 Gettysburg 14 6 Ipswich 39 7 Miller 21 7 Wessington Springs 33 18 Eureka 0 12 Mobridge 35 7 Faulkton 33 28
