Middleton, Jim Palon, Ron Pekarek, Irvel Korford, Dick Weber, Don Sharp, Jin Cisler, Steve Taylor, Tom Melboum, Gary Erlandson, and Skis Cline. With five lettermen returning tc the nev cage coach, Mr. William Adney, a season of four- teen losses and two wins summarizes the 1958 basketball season for Highmore High School's Pirates. Jim Palon, Irvel Morford, Jia Middleton, Dick Weber, and Ron Pekarek were the re- turning letteraen; all were seniors. In Central Conference standings, Highmore defeated Hiller, the only conference loser to the Pirates. Highmore used their B's to succiadb Ree Height in the opening rounds of the 1958 District 16 contest. In semi-final play, the Pirates lost to incumbent Wolsey in an over-time period. Wolsey went on to get the championship trophy and a berth in Region Four. In the last game of the season and the last game for the Pirates of the year's tournament, St. Lawrence proved too powerful and took a position as third place winners. Weber, Morford, and Palon were high scorers for the team. Kneeling; Jerald Garrigan, Donald Durfee, James Gunderson, Ton Melboum, Dean Curtis, Darwin Sampson, Larry Tompkins, Terry McDermott, and Wallace Underhill. Standing; Coach H. W. Hadom, Jerry Heckenlaible, Francis Parker, Jim Cisler, Craig Wharton, John Runestad, Dean Hagemen, Bill Kass, Marlin Lusk, Jerry Duchene, and Ass't Coach Bill Adney. All-State Fullback Jim Palon, who was this Year's high scorer including five touchdowns against Eureka, was named to the all-state foot- ball team which is sponsored by the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. Don Sharp, a junior, and Dick Weber, a senior, received honor- able mention.
