Track Mcwes passing the baton to Curtis Volek getting set -i.a... — Prior to the state track meet which D. Weber clearing the high hurdles was held at Mitchell, South Dakota, the cindermen from Highmore High had won U2 medals in competition. We were strong in the Mile Relay (Volek,Palon, Morford, Pekarek) and Sprint Medley - (Mewes, Palon, Volek, Weber), High Hurdles (Dick Weber) and Mile Run (Dick LaFortune). The four mentioned qualified in regional competition for the state track meet. The highlight of the year was at the conference track meet at Mobridge. Under the direction of Mr. Herbert Johnson H.H.S. s music department was kept at a busy pace heading for the goal they had set at the beginning of the year. Our 50 piece band was an asset to the community as well as to the school. Its officers for the year were: Donald Grable, Roger Bawdon, Alys Larsen, Mjrma Ferris and Marilyn Christensan. Small vocal and instrumental groups appeared for many different local affairs, and were greatly enjoyed and appreciated. Several high school students under the careful direction of Mr. Johnson helped with the grade school music. The music department has done a very nice Job this year. So hats off to H.H.S. s music department.
