r The 1970 Hornet Staff This year, we of the annual staff are proud to present the 1970 Hornet Memories. It has been our aim to recapture as many happenings as possible. We sincerely hope that you enjoy your copy and that it will grow in value as the years go by. Good luck to each of you. The Hornet Staff Laurie Haynes, Editor Brenda Smith, Business Manager Janice Rose, Artist Pam Lightfoot, Photographer Ronnie Shenkir, Salesman Randy Crutchfield, Salesman Mr. Heatherly, Sponsor I Superintendent TO THE STUDENTS OF HIGHLAND PARK For 15 successive years I have been exceedingly proud to have had a part in the Highland Park School. Each year seems to have been better than the previous one. My desire is to always strive for improvement in the school; thereby providing the best possible facilities for the education of each student. It is my desire that each of you continue your education, providing yourselves with the necessary tools for a most successful life. County School Superintendent Principal This school year has been most satisfying to me. Many things that we have set out to do have become accomplished facts. I want to thank the faculty, employees and patrons for this most successful and rewarding year. I wish everyone continued success in the following years. Congratulations Ronnie and Alice. 6 King And Queen Of Highland Park Each year at Highland Park a king and queen arc selected by the student body on the basis of popularity. This year we are proud to present Ralph Montano and Pam Light-foot - Highland Park's Royalty for 1970. Congratulations Ralph and Pam. 7 Basketball Queens The lionor of being selected as basketball queen is one well desired by many girls. This year the boys basketball team picked Fern Harrison and Brenda Smith for these honors. Fern is the ninth grade queen. Brenda represents the eighth grade team. Both girls are members of the girls basketball team. I've been visiting the moon and you could never believe who I ran into. Who but FERN HARRISON, now Mrs. DENNIS LITTLEFIELD. Fern has gained a lot of weight and takes care of their twins, Dan, 15 and Jody, 25. Dennis isn’t doing so well - lie has suffered through 250 Algebra teachers since dear ole MR. HEATHERLY. Poor Dennis is completely bald and so humped back that he looks like MR. D. (slick!) Fern told me about ANN HAMBY’S new job - that she didn’t get. Now all she docs is sit around her deluxe, super colossal, push button ghetto home, eating and cutting out paper dolls. (?) She has finally tipped the scales at 737 1 4 pounds, but she is still only 5 feet tall. The corns between her teeth arc still giving her trouble. There was an amazing article on CECILIA MONTANA in todays paper. It seems that she was practicing her advanced Home Economics and went a little too far. She added too much star shine shampoo to her favorite mixture of hair setting gel and all her hair has fallen out. She is now worried about hiding her dandruff. DENNIS DIAL was also in the paper recently. See, he has become a strangely underdeveloped mad scientist and tried to invent a formula for multiptmonsciopiousthia, which is a common illness on Jupiter. However, it seems he tried to mix carbonflorite with nitroglicobaltagzine and came up with a substance which flung him out onto an unnamed planet called Spcctum. Right now he is working on re-non-un-flung pills. (Good luck, Dennis - you need it) Remember KEITH NEUSCH? He has become the only farming expert on Mars. He helps the Martians grow green goop . Strange for someone who doesn't even like the stuff. We mean the Martians of course. Last week 1 took a wild trip to Venus and ran into loads of people, one of whom was was Jo the Supreme, alias JO ANN MURPHY. Eating has gotten to her - she actually loves dead caviar. Try live caviar JoAnn! Another old friend I ran into was the tall man of the circus, GREG LITTLE, and his partner, LANNY SNIDER. It just happened that Greg pushed Lanny into a hot water bubble bath and he shrank like an old wool sock. Oh yeah, Lanny is now only 2 ft. 3 in. tall and suffers from swollen ankles and bow leggedness. Greg is about the same as always - just a mess! When 1 returned home from my trip, I was listening to my supersonicsolar set and heard about poor ALICE RICE. She got up to sing at the universally famous Madison Round Gardens and was tripped by an oncoming match stick. Rumor has it that she broke three bones in her leg. I guess this will just ruin her career as a high jumper. Do you recall ole sharp cars ? MATTELEA WYATT has become Satums Mathematical and Navigational expert. She is so good now that she has won 273 awards. However no one knows where to reach her in order to present her with these awards. If you see Mattelea, tell her to call 621 6543. RONNIE SHENKIR has become a neurosurgeon for Russian caterpillars! He’s doing very well and has taken on an assistant, RICKY CHAMBERS. But when 1 last talked to Ricky he sounded an awful lot like a caterpillar! What happened Ronnie? PAM L1GHTFOOT has really got it - just what she's got, we don’t know -But she’s got it. NEXT TIME YOU SEE HER JUST LOOK!!! Oil, and remember LAURIE HAYNES? She's doing real well - she has just become the star cheerleader for Saturns Suntanners. This.is her 32nd consecutive year, but her feet arc begining to give her some trouble, since shoes only come in two sizes on Saturn: Small and tiny. 1 really must close soon, but first I must tell you what happened the other day. 1 was flying rather low down Moondust Blvd. when who should I chance to meet but Mr. and Mrs. DERYLL FRIDAY. Yes, Deryll lias finally given up playboying around and gotten married. The lucky girl??? Who but the former ROSE HAMLIN. Deryll was pretty beat up, so naturally I asked him what happened. He told me that he and RALPH MONTANA had a terrible fight over Rose, it seems that Rose dropped her bubble gum and Ralph wouldn’t give it back. (How come Ralph???) Rufus was so shook up when he lost the fight that he exiled himself to Pluto and is only seen once every century when he comes back to the moon for more Rosie bubble gum.
