Student Council Student Council Holds Banner Year The 1984-1985 Student Coun- cil executive board was led by the officers elected by the student body in the Spring of 1984. George Seay was elected Presi- dentg C. D. Shamburger, Parliamentariang LuAnne Starey, Secretary, and Katie Bywaters, Treasurer. The classes at HPHS elected their own representatives. The senior class of 1985 elected Kathy Lumpkin, Libby Lumpkin, and David Thompson to represent them on the Student Coimcil. The jimiors elected Laura Lodewick and C. B. Gunter, and the Sophomores elected Bakeney Bobbitt and Alan Stotts. The in- coming freshmen nominated An- dy McElroy and Scott Sherer to represent them. Later in the spr- ing, Brent Wingert was appointed to the Vice-President position by George Seay. Under the guidance of spon- sors Ruth Anne Vineyard and Jerry Smith, these officers, the executive board and the classroom reps worked on many projects throughout the year. The Howdy Dance held in September, was the Student Councilis first of three dances. The second dance was on November 3 and was the Homecoming Dance. President George Seay crowned Stacy Jacobe as the Homecoming queen. A third dance was held in January. The Final Fling was held in the gym prior to finals, hence the name. Also on the agenda for the Stu- dent Council was the proposition for better communication bet- ween the student council and the student body. Also, the council helped Hi-Lites with its annual Christmas Food Drive and also plamied projects of their own. '-13.
