'11 .,' ,A A 9-,. f,- Ls--. -7? .1 Eva -to ink, Girls enrolled in PE at the beginning ot the school year tound themselves exercis- ing not only to shape up tor the coming year ot athletic activity but also to pre- pare tor the Physical Fitness Test. During the tirst tew weeks ot school, people walking past the girlsi gym heard groans ot Not that exerciselii or 'iplease stopfii rending the air. But by the time they had completed the required three weeks ot exercises girls telt well enough prepared to take the titness test. Given tor the tirst time at l-lp. the test, which took place under the supervision ot gym teachers Mrs. Gynne lvlanson and lvliss Jayne Murchison, consisted ot a standing broadiump, sit-ups, a shuttle- run, pull-ups, a sottball throw, a 50-yard dash. and a 600-yard walk-run. Gym classes opened the sports sched- ule by playing speedball and tenniquoits alternately. Weeks ot practicing which cameibetore actual competition enabled girls to develop quick reactions and accu- rate aim. Basketball completed the last ot games on the tall schedule. Girls learned tunda- mentals and took a written test on rules. TOP: As Betsy Beams gets ready to catch the speedball Karen Frymire prepares to run.
