Homecoming Helps Students Down the Road Homecoming 1980 started in style with the Scots defeating North Garland. The cheerleaders planned a new and exciting event during the week of Homecoming in the form of a commu- nity picnicg however, it was cancelled because of the presidential race. During halftime the fathers pre- sented tothe crowd the six Homecom- ing Queen nominees, Christy Nichols, Mary Jane Wallace, Diane Hoover, Magaret Coleman, Amy Baker, and Ellen Carpenter. This was the first year the Home- coming Dance occurred on a Saturday night. The couples went to the new gym and danced to the music of Larry T-Bird. The theme this year was Ease on Down the Road. Nancy Hill and Al Hammack headed the Social committee that decorated the gym with bright colored balloons and a poster sized picture of each nominee. Parents and teachers served refresh- ments and chaperoned the dance. Ellen Carpenter was escorted by Noble Nash, Diane Hoover by Michael Miller, Amy Baker by Dan Tubb, Christy Nichols by Charlie Terrell, Mary Jane Wallace by Al Hammack, and Marga- ret Coleman by Steve McCoy. The Stu- dent Council president then presented roses and an innocent kiss to Amy Baker as he crowned her Homecoming Queen for 1980 to conclude the annual ceremony. There she is . . .: Amy Baker shines after being crowned Homecoming Queen. We're 91: The victorious Scotties celebrate their triumph after the North Garland game. 26 Homecoming

Students see queen, plays, and Skyward November was a month that answered many pending questions. The first was answered when Amy Baker was crowned Homecoming Queen. Other girls nominated were Ellen Carpenter, Margaret Coleman, Diane Hoover, Christy Nichols and Mary Jane Wallace. The answer to who would be the next president of the United States was answered November 4 when Ronald Reagan was elected by an overwhelm- ing majority. Ellen Felvey, Catherine Boren and Doug Wright won the leads in this year's senior play Pygmalion. All cast members did an outstanding job. Many Highland Park students saw themselves on national television when Skyward, the movie filmed at Highland Park High, was aired. Finally, the question that puzzled mil- lions for eight months was answered November 20th. The patient television viewers found out that the infamous J. Fl. Ewing of Dallas was shot by Kristin Shepard, his wife's sister. The one and only: John Marks fires up students with his Scotty spirit during a pep rally.
