Ja! gk... A gif! - Q ESRC Sale HFHS F' Christening new stadium finally occurs October, along with bringing a wel- come weather change, brought a ton of student activities. Providing a much needed distrac- tion from homework and school rou- tine, Hi-Lites hosted a dance with a western theme. The couples, dressed in cowboy boots and hats, danced the night away. The money made from the Jamboree was used for the Hi-Lites' Christmas project. The sophomore girls challenged the undefeated Senior Women to an afternoon of tackle football. The seniors won this rivalry 6-2. Another one bites the dust. . . October 13th, Fair Day, brought a welcome interlude for those recovering from Texas-OU Week- end. The closest most students got to Big Tex this year was the State Fair Music Hall, where they saw Camelot, starring Richard Burton. October 24 marked the historic christening of the untrod Highlander Stadium. Special guests included former Hi-Park All-State football star, Governor Bill Clements, and the 1945 and 1957 state championship football teams. A pregame party kicked off the festivities. lt was fol- lowed by a parachuter bringing in the game ball and a victory for the Scots. The month ended with the Scots' win over the North Garland Raiders. Many students got into the spirit of Halloween and went to the game dressed as ghosts and goblins. Homecoming Helps Students Down the Road Homecoming 1980 started in style with the Scots defeating North Garland. The cheerleaders planned a new and exciting event during the week of Homecoming in the form of a commu- nity picnicg however, it was cancelled because of the presidential race. During halftime the fathers pre- sented tothe crowd the six Homecom- ing Queen nominees, Christy Nichols, Mary Jane Wallace, Diane Hoover, Magaret Coleman, Amy Baker, and Ellen Carpenter. This was the first year the Home- coming Dance occurred on a Saturday night. The couples went to the new gym and danced to the music of Larry T-Bird. The theme this year was Ease on Down the Road. Nancy Hill and Al Hammack headed the Social committee that decorated the gym with bright colored balloons and a poster sized picture of each nominee. Parents and teachers served refresh- ments and chaperoned the dance. Ellen Carpenter was escorted by Noble Nash, Diane Hoover by Michael Miller, Amy Baker by Dan Tubb, Christy Nichols by Charlie Terrell, Mary Jane Wallace by Al Hammack, and Marga- ret Coleman by Steve McCoy. The Stu- dent Council president then presented roses and an innocent kiss to Amy Baker as he crowned her Homecoming Queen for 1980 to conclude the annual ceremony. There she is . . .: Amy Baker shines after being crowned Homecoming Queen. We're 91: The victorious Scotties celebrate their triumph after the North Garland game. 26 Homecoming
