John Helm and Mark A. Thornton were in the middle ot an important scene when a light tell, narrowly missing them. Damage was contined mainly to the actors' nerves. The contemporary play set in New York City centered around the Girattes, a rock group consisting ot Joe Cox's band. Mary Anna Austin. the conservative sister ot Sam Schettler, a not-so-conservative leader ot the group, tinds to her dismay, that her boytriend, Mark Thornton, also wants to be a member ot the group. V . tl 'i ,nv if? , -lt, i FP f i Cathy Hearne is the triend who sticks by Mary Anna's side through every calamity, and Mark A. Thornton and John Helm are two hippies who complicate matters consid- erably. Molly Madeley played a gypsy. while Tom Gilchrist and Diane Perelson portrayed two calm parents. Student director Patti O'Connor aided director Mrs. Jan Webb with Mrs. Carla McGee serving as assistant director. Stage manager Pam Elkins and sound man Paul Gleiser kept things running smoothly back- stage and business manager, Jett Murray handled the publicity. SOON-TO-BE Homecoming Queen Maribeth Koons Student Council ' F Hosts Gabriel, Crowns ueen Still exultant over a 48-I8 victory over Mesquite, SOO students attended the post- game Homecoming dance, the biggest school social event ot the year. Atter halttime entertainment, the six Homecoming queen nominees cruised around Highlander tield in convertibles and were introduced to the crowd attending the game. Following the game. Scots danced to Gabriel and ate retreshments provided by the Student Council. Members ot the 'decorating committee carried out the theme Autumn Leaves - the Golden Year with streamers ot orange, yellow, and brown throughout the gym. The program began at eleven o'cloclc when the nominees walked down the center aisle to the Queens throne. Each was es- corted by a senior tootball player to the tune ot her tavorite song. Students Carol, Make Stockings For Christmas Caroling choristers provided a musical background tor the Yuletide season. The combined choirs provided holiday cheer tor visitors during a home tour sponsored by Kappa Kappa Gamma alumnae. Highlandaires and Lads and Lassies con- tinued to harmonize tor the Caruth Rehabil- itation Center, St. Paul's Hospital, Chil- dren's Medical Center, and Gaston Episco- pal Hospital. Holiday celebrations tollowed the choral event. An evening Christmas concert combined the choirs and orchestra tor the entertain- ment ot the PTA and Dad's Club. A vocational clinic ottered seniors guid- ance in career choices through presenta- tions by I4 protessionals in various tields. The Hi-Lites Red Cross Committee made decorations ot Christmas stockings their Yuletide proiect. The tinished product travelled to children remaining at Presbyte- rian Hospital during the holidays. As another charity proiect, girls in the STP Tri-Hi-Y challenged a senior Hi-Y to a basketball game staged during activities period. As a handicap, the boys' right hands were secured behind their backs. The girls scored a victory tor the second year in a row. Seniors Tom Gilchrist, Amy Hook, Barba- ra Hunt, Sam Schettler. and Debbie Simp- kin. and juniors Evanne Browne and Diane Daniels earned the title ot semi-tinalists in the Texas all-state choir, atter competition with choir students trom 32 Dallas area high schools. A tutorial program, statted by National Honor Society members. ottered help to struggling math students. The project began on a trial basis in December. 28 0 December
