The Kern High School District Board of Trustees and the Superintendency congratulate the staff students and parents of Highland High School for the school's nomination as a California Distinguished School. We recognize and applaud Highland's ver'y serious efforts over the past three years to improve its overall program. This effort has resulted in higher test scores, increased enrollment in academic subjects, and a low dropout rate leading to the Distinguished School nomination. The Highland close-knit community spirit has been a vital component of the school's improvement process. This spirit. uniting students, parents. teachers. counselors, classified staff and administrators, is very evident as we watch Highland excel in academic and extra-curricular activities. Communication is the style of our administration! I believe that Highland's style is unique. We 're a school of individuals who care about each other, who value academics, and who exhibit great enthusiasm and pride for whatever the school undertakes. We have a staff which works very hard to provide an exemplary education for our students. We have a student body which demonstrates its interest in school through hard work, faithful attendance: and participation in extra-curricular activities. And we have supportive parents who volunteer their talents, energy, and time to help us educate their children. Highland 's people are great and unique, and I love being principal of a school with such style!
