Kris Dove, A11-American Girl A romantic wintry evening accented the first annual Ceilyh Festival held on March 14, 1969. The name Ceilyh Festival meaning Scottish Festival was chosen by the Student Government to be the name of the yearly semi-formal dance. The dance was held from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Com- munity Center, where the students were provided with ample room for dancing and a cozy fire in the lounge. A committee chosen from Student Council and Student Government decorated the Center with colorful balloons attached to the ceiling, butterflies on the walls, and candles on the tables which were donated by the Center. Party sandwiches and punch were served continuously during the dance. The Class Museum, a local pop group, provided the entertainment for the event. At 9:30, Mary Beth Hayes, 1969 Yearbook editor, crowned the vivacious senior, Kris Dove. W111 C0mpet1t10n The Highland Scots experienced their greatest home- coming in the schoolls history. During the week pre- ceding homecoming day, various clubs and classes out- did themselves trying to create the best float. As a new record, more than thirty entries were involved in the parade prior to the Saturday game. Halftime ceremonies included another award-winning performance by the Marching Highlanders, and the crowning of a senior, Terra Skinner, as homecoming queen. Highlighting the day's activities was a victory over the Pendleton Irish. Float judging was changed this year by placing the floats into two classes instead of one. Large floats were placed in class Av, walking floats were placed in class B , and a winner was chosen for the best overall float. The senior float HHS Victory Expressv, was the winner of the class AU division and was selected as the overall winner. Class Bn division was captured by the Latin Club whose theme was KSPQRU. An outstanding dance topped off the Scotls successful day. Homecoming Queen, Terra Skinner, reigned over the affair, while the Other Five,', a group from Ball State University, provided the entertainment. The Student Council decorated the gym with strobe lights and a color- ful array of streamers, which helped to make homecoming an event our Scots will long remember. The Frosh Stew the Irish for a homecoming victory. A victory dance highlights homecoming. The queen's dance made homecoming a night Terra will never forget. 17
