By MAJOR RICHARD L ENDRES Colvin Coolidge Hlgh School The Eighth Rebnnent under the expert guidance of Lt Col Kelley our mllltary mstructor has made definrte strides this year Althou h our regiment IS not so lar e as lt was last year we feel that we have benefited reatly from the seriousness and hlbh quality of its members In the latter part of the first semester we sert a recruiting party of boy and 1rl Cadets to Paul Junior H1 h Srhool to outline briefly for the students there the actlvltles and advantahes to be derlyed from partlclpltlon lll the Cadet Corps Our complement of February recruits proved that our efforts were not in vain Our non LOIYIIIIIQQIOIIGKI ollicers orhanued the Chevrons Club for the dual pur pose of furthermb their knowledhe of close order drill 'ind their duties as non coms and also ol enjoying close fellowship with one another This non com club meets re ularly with the military instructor who discusses with them the procedure followed ln company IIIQPCLIIOII lll the Battalion Drill ln extended order drill tramed roup of officers next year In preparation for our combined Reblmental Ball of boy and glrl Cadets we 1n1t1ated a dance class for the members of the Re lment We are sure that both the students and mstructors of the class enjoyed this activity very much In an effort to stimulate enlistment February recrults were admitted free to the Ball which was leld on Thursday February 21 ln the Coolidge Armory The Rifle Team ably captamed by Sgt Haskell has amed valuable CXPCFICHCC by shooting ln mterhlgh matches Also the map reading class mstructed by Lt Col Kelley assisted by I t Lt Ford Adjutant acqulred a skill which will always prove useful to them I should now l1ke to express my appreclatlon to the company officers of companies A and B and to the captain and sgt major of the Band for the loyalty and cooperation that they have demonstrated ln working with me They have done excellent jobs 1n trammg their units and I have sincerely enjoyed my association wlth them Let me also thank the members of my staff who have worked so closely with me Mr Ryland M Warren our former military mstructor rs to be commended for the fine job he has done runnmo our PX He has worked very hard supplying Cadets with uniforms and uniform accessorles To Mr Lee D Gllbert Chalrman of the Mllltary Commlttee may I extend my thanks for all the work he has done IH aldlflg the Rebxment I also appreciate the mterest our principal Mr Thomas .I Holmes has shown in our work In conclusion I salute the members of the E1 hth Reblment I have enjoyed workmg with each and every one of you and may I wlsh you the best of luck and success 111 your future endeax ors SHERIDAN 7-IOWEZ J OFF H E DELVIGNE Prop 6115 Georgia Ave NW Randolph 2940 Snecml Prices for Coohdue Students 91 .
