THIRD REGIMENT By MAJOR PAUL W GARRETT Eastern Hugh School The first two weeks of school were llke eternity to the majorlty of us officer candldates for we had not then attained the commissions for which we had waited since joining the Cadet Corps Our anticipation could not be relleved until the selectlon of Colonel had been made Naturally we were confident that Easterns candidate would make the rade and we were not too surprlsed when rt was learned that the honor of the Colonelcy of the Brigade had been placed upon Eastern Following the selection of Colonel Walter H Flint and about three weeks after the opening of school the oHic1al formatlon of the Third Reglment took place Complying with the new regulation three companies of moderate SIZC were formed Not satisfied with the size of our companies we decided to campalgn for recruits in the neighboring junior high schools To each of these schools we sent an exhlbl t1on platoon whlch was an average platoon chosen at random from the companies Naturally there was a little anxlety over the way ln whlch they would perform but they llVCd up to the greatest of our expectatlons The facts concerning the Cadet Corps were presented to the junior high school boys frankly with no false illusrons The results were well worth the work as we received one of the lar est February remruitments in the city Among the hlghllghts of the cadet year at Eastern was the Platoon Competition scroll on whlch the names of the men of the platoon were listed were presented at our Annual Reglmental Ball A hnanclal success as well as a success 1n the way of entertainment the ball was one of the finest Eastern has ever had This was due to the consistent cooperation extended by the oflicers of the Third Regiment the whole year Throughout the year LOIllllll10l.lS progress in drill has been made CODIFITJUTIIIQ., famtors 1n the progress have been the excellent uldance is en us by the mrlitarx instructor Lt Jack B Fenn and the Chalrman of the Military Committee Mr H D Qhorts and the cooperation and complete understanding ,iven us bv Eastern s nevt principal Mr I P Collins I am prompted to say that Eastern will have a successful year in competition because the morale the cooperation and the w1ll to work has been exceptlonally fine The cadets of Eastern High Qchool have given their utmost and should reap the rewards In the hearts of all the Eastern officers the Third Regrment of 194-6 will always remain tops' If S Q Treag fo Mee' FLOWERS FOR All.
