SECOND REGIMENT By MAJOR CHARLES J ANDERSEN McKlnIey Hugh School Th1s year the Second Regnnent, for the first tlme 1n lts hlstory, was organized mth but one battallon This reorffanrzatron, caused by decreased enllstments and the nuposmff of a m1n1mum on the enrollment of a company, was a Cl1S3p1J0lIll.I'HCI1I to us as lt was to the members of the other umts that had to do the same thmff Many cadets were denied hlgher ranks and better posltions, and a number of prospectne officers had to remam IH then old ranks mstead of bemg advanced The SIIUHIIOII, however, was taken by them as a matter of course Other fellows lf faced by the same IIUHIIOII nnffht have qult but these men stayed on and ln dolnff so enabled the battalion to be better staffed and trained than would have been otherwlse posslble An nnportant factor 1n the tralnlng of Tech s battalion IS co operation among all parts of the umt A corporal can do nothnw wlth hls squad wlthout 1ts co operatlon A lieutenant is powerless wlth regard to hls platoon rf the men dont co operate A captam IS unable to handle his company without the co operatlon of every man ln any OFUHIIIZHIIOH of any nature co operatlon IS absolutely lndlspensable Another factor necessary for a top notch organrzatlon such as the Second Reglment IS the ablllty of each member to take and glVB orders lntelllgently and exactly ln the Corps every member IS supposed to carry out any and every order glven to hllll He carrles out the command in many cases because he feels lt Wlll better hls chances for becomlng an officer or for Wlllhlflg a dr1ll or for some other such motive At the trme, that may be the only reason the order was glven Actually the whole plan or final goal of the lssuance of that command IS not merely to help the cadet become an ofhcer or to w1n a drlll but to teach him to take orders and carry them out That Hblllty will be used by hlm long after he ha left the Second Revlment It IS because Cadet Tralnmg so forcefully drlves home the reallzatlon that the glVlIlg and takmg of orders IS so nece sary that every boy should be Un en thls tramma We looked forward w1th confidence to all competltlons Beyond them we could see the dlstant future and realize that the experience Ualned in the Second Real ment would a1d us lmmeasurablv In attalnlng success 1n the future I speak for the Whole battallon when I thank Mr Klehblel for h1 asslstance ni maklnv Techs battallon a first rate organlzatlon Personallx l should l1ke to thank all the men ln the battallon for thelr constant co operat1on THE SECOND REGIMENTAL STAFF McKINLEY HIGH SCHOOL 1 T Lr Srawu-x ARVIENTRUI r Nlu fnxml-s I Xiworznsxfw 1sT LT TXILBIR H l'smrL lcljulanl lommander Supplx Ogicer Junfs A RICHARDSON lsT IT Lovs ARD W Hr TNIIRF IIILAIRL L DECnsT Supply Sergeant Personnel Adjutant .Sergeant llajor NX ILSON I CooPFn 1s'r LT Tnovus Bovs ww RIQHARD A CKSTLE l olor Sergeant' Traznmg F Ialoon Commander C olor .Sergeant NIH ELMER H RRFHBIFI NIA.: ARTHLR E Cook Ilzlllarv Imtruclor FEBRUARY GRADUATES SECOND REGIMENT lsr lT ltnuolxu lx ILF lsr LT GIFNN D TIGNhR 41 -. . . . .
