ARMISTICE DAY CEREMONY By MAJOR SYDNEY A. JONAS Brigade Stott Colonel Walter H. Flint with his staff, assisted by the ten unit commanders, or their proxies, and representing the Washington High School Cadet Brigade, laid a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 9 a.m., November 11, 1945. In the administration of this solemn duty, through which the Corps expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the dead of two world wars and the martyrs of democracy they were aided by Lt Colonel William E Barkman profe sor of military science and tactics for the District of Columbia and MISS Helen White of the Roo-exelt High School Post Exchange Following the ceremony at the tomb of the Unknown the cadet group paid tribute in a similar manner at the graves of certain men whose active connection with the Corps have merited its consideration These additional ceremonies were performed before the ,raves of Colonel Alexander W Marsh military instructor at McKinley prior to hi death in 1931 Lt Col John G Donovan who served as military instructor at the Business and Central High Schools before his retire ment and Lt Joseph C Murphy military instructor at Western from 1933 to 1937 As a fitting close to the day s activities the cadets saluted the tomb of the late Lt Colonel Wallace M Craigle beloved professor of military science and tactics from 1921 to 1944 Though the wreath of the W3QhlI1 ton H1 h School Cadet Corps purchased through contrlbutlons made by all local h1 h schools was the first presented to the memory of the Unknown Soldier others were added as the exercises of the day continued among the imposing array of mementoes to American dead were in cluded the tributes of Harry S Truman President of the United States and Clement R Attlee Prime Minister of Great Britain lxanltzng Cadet 0 cers Parlzctpatmg ut the Feremony at the Tomb o the Unknoun Soldzer 38 . . , . , ' 4 , ,Q , Q ' c . 7 U . . .
