PRESIDENT Donald Brown, VICE- PRESIDENT Jim Irey, SECRETARY THROUGH THE YEARS As we look back over our six years in Hicksville High School our minds are filled with recollections—a mixture of fun and work. In the fall of 1947 we entered the new routine as a class of 43 members. The first two years slipped by quickly and we soon began our careers as green freshmen. In our freshmen year we started building up our treasury by selling Easter Lilies for the Poiio Fund. Then we advanced to sophomores when we entered the social whirl with The Black Cat Dance. That spring we made a big decision when we ordered our class rings. In 1951 we began our junior year with a new feeling of responsibility for we were now upperclassmen. With the excitement of our Junior year came the receiving of our class rings and the publishing of the Spoondrift. That fall we presented the play, Battle for Bill, under the guiding hand of Miss Henry. In the spring we began working on our Junior Show. As a result of co-operation and hours of work, our show was a great success, in fact, we were invited to Fort Wayne by the V.F.W. to give the show at the Veterans ' Hospital. Finally we began planning and decorating for the Junior-Senior Prom. After working day and night, we completed the project with the theme Harbor Lights. Among the many accomplishments of our Junior year was the choosing of our class motto, Fordward Ever, Backward Never, our class colors, Royal Blue and Gray, and our class flower, a red carnation. Now we are Seniors and have come to the last steps of our history here at H. H. S. We have chosen Donald Brown as President, Jim Irey as Vice- President, Marilyn Poth as Secretary, and Lois Tustison as Treasurer, to lead us through our final year. We all enjoyed working together on football and bas¬ ketball concessions to help raise money for our trip to Washington. We had fun practicing for the Senior class play and the Coronation will always remain a pleasant memory. Many of us will never forget those hectic days meeting our Hixonian deadline. As a final gala occasion we were honored at the Junior- Senior Prom which was the highlight of the year. Marilyn Poth, TREASURER Lois Anne Tustison. We took our last steps here at H. H. S. with Baccalaureate and Com¬ mencement when we said good-bye to our Alma Mater. We will always keep these pleasant memories of challenge and achievement in our hearts. Graduating with top honors is Elizabeth Benninghoff, our Valedictorian. Elizabeth not only has led her class in studies but has also been a leader in extra-curricular activities. In her Junior year she was editor of the Spoondrift and was chosen representative to Girls ' State. During her Senior year Elizabeth was editor of the Hixonian, and president of the Student Council besides being a member of the Latin Club and of the band where she played a clarinet. Elizabeth hopes to continue her education at Lutheran Hospital where she intends to study nursing. The class of 1953 also wishes to present their Co-Salutatorians, Barbara Lenhart and Wilbur Wright. These two members of the Senior Class have followed Elizabeth in scholas¬ tic ability and participation in activities. They have attained their honors through outstand¬ ing ability and hard work.
