S. once again start its football machine rolling. On what seemed the hottest days of the year, you could see the fellas working out like mad. Sweat flowed freely, but they endured it with the hopes of making this year's football season a blaze of glory for dear old H. H. S. With the return of 8 letter-men, our hopes were very high for the season. Among the seasoned veterans were Blackbird Hostetler, Big Toth, Mousie Jones, Ed Bakle and Max Culler of the Senior Class. The lower classes produced lnjun Charlie Wetzel, Dick Kreg, Phil Tuttle, Bob Lehman, and Dick Babcock. Shortly after football practice began, the polio epi- demic came along and upset the schedule slightly, so with only four serious practice sessions, the Aces, with that old do or die spirit went into their first game. Their biggest trouble seemed to be broken bones. ln the very first game John Durre, a new member of the squad, broke his leg. Then Max Culler pulled a leg muscle, and in the Payne game Co-captain Bill Hostetler broke his leg. In spite of all this, however, the Aces turned in a very good season. When they hung up their pads, they had tied for second place in the League, and had been well represented on the All-League Team. Co- captains Toth and Hostetler held honorary positions on the first team and Babcock, Kees, Applegate, and Wet- zel on the second team. m, 31,,..,f Sapp, Ladd, Kaduk, and Drugg lnot pictured? - this was our Big Four in coaching. Mr. Sapp and Mr. Ladd, our regulars from last year, received much help from Mr. Kaduk and Mr. Drugg for the linemen. We were very fortunate, indeed, to have such an able and competent coaching staff. Always on hand when they were needed, they have all gained the complete faith of the boys and the utmost respect of the entire student body.
