FORE WO RD The staff of the 1962 Comet Yearbook hopes it has fulfilled its mission, to present a pictorial chronicle of school days, that will be treasured in days to come, as a reminder and a record of happy memory-filled days. The yearbook is also a gesture of good-will and trust to those are to carry on the traditions of Hicksville High School. Members of the graduating class have looked forward to 1962 with anticipation and will always look back upon these care-free days with min- gled feelings. As we seniors step forth from these sheltered and happy scenes, we must be ready to accept more and more the challenge and the responsibility ahead and to play our part well in a world so troubled and unsteady. Upon the foundation we have built let us determine to go forward with confidence and courage to prove what young hearts and minds can do for the world. We wish to express our appreciation to all those who contributed their time and effort to produce this book. We are especially indebted to the boys in the print shop who have worked so untiringly under the direction of Mr. Adams to make possible the 1962 COMET. “For I dipped into the future, far as eye could see, Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be.”

This year of 1962 I am losing not only many fine students who will be graduated but many, many good friends. We have spent three years to- gether. These have been formative years for you and three years of fine ex- perience for me. I hope by your association with your school that you have developed the power of independent thought. This thought I hope has been buttressed by an accumulation of knowledge, culture, and professional skills. I know that because of your moral qualities you will become leaders of our community and yes, leaders of communities beyond us. Always remem- ber to be ready to participate constructively in the maintenance and devel- opement of a free society against those who would destroy it. You have contributed much to the growth of our school and I hope we in the school have influenced and contributed much to you. May God always be with you. When you have a spare moment remember us kindly.
