As you come to the end of your high school ca- reer, it is only natural that your first desire will be to avail yourself of every experience and opportunity of life. To achieve this it is essential that you build strong bodies, sound minds, well-balanced personal- ities, and that you adjust yourself well emotionally. Strive to maintain tranquillity and serenity of mind and soul as you pursue happiness. You may seek this happiness in many ways—in study, in duty, in work, in recreation, and in your dreams and hopes. If you would gain success, ambition must be closely followed by perseverance. In life, there is only one real failure, and that is the failure of not rising every time you fall. You need only to remind your- self of those, who, through sheer perseverance, have overcome far greater obstacles than I hope you will ever have to face. Success is always just ahead, but it does not come at your command. Deserve it! Try to under- stand its secret. With the assets and talents you pos- sess, seek further prosperity and security. As you go forth to see new experiences and opportunities, get from life all you can. Face your challenges courage- ously and may your lives be happy, constructive, and useful. yVL Assistant Principal “Give me where to stand, and I will move the earth. So said Archimedes two thousand years ago. The reference is to the potential of the lever, but leaves much room for interpretation. The force, the fulcrum, the lever, the resistance, all parts of a mechanical device, can be thought of in different lights. The effort one applies to any task, one’s native inherited characteristics, the education and preparation for life, and the job to be done are all factors in a broader “lever system. You are now faced, on graduation, with the problem of finding ‘where to stand.” The determination of the position you must take depends on how large a world you wish to move. It depends on how well prepared you are to accomplish your chosen goal and whether you are to continue to lengthen your lever through fur- ther education. There must be a balanced situation in order for one to achieve success. Carefully analyze the world you must move. Objectively judge your abilities. Prepare yourself with the proper sized lever then push. If the platform you work from is the correct one, the earth will move. f JZ— ■ Assistant Principal 6

This year of 1962 I am losing not only many fine students who will be graduated but many, many good friends. We have spent three years to- gether. These have been formative years for you and three years of fine ex- perience for me. I hope by your association with your school that you have developed the power of independent thought. This thought I hope has been buttressed by an accumulation of knowledge, culture, and professional skills. I know that because of your moral qualities you will become leaders of our community and yes, leaders of communities beyond us. Always remem- ber to be ready to participate constructively in the maintenance and devel- opement of a free society against those who would destroy it. You have contributed much to the growth of our school and I hope we in the school have influenced and contributed much to you. May God always be with you. When you have a spare moment remember us kindly.
