ELWOOD LARSEN in The numberof diplomasa young man has in his pocket isn 't half as important as the amount of determination he has in his head. Americans visualize their country as The land of opportunity, It is the land of promise where every man, no matter what his origin, may aim for the top, Public education has usually been considered a key to the door of opportunity that America offers for every one. Congratulations upon the completion of a successful and full year of schoolexperience! To those who are leaving Hesperia at this time, my sincere best wishes for your continued success. To those students who have not yet completed their high school experience, may I offer a word ofencouragement. Your success in the future will be determined by what you do today. Consider your present assignment seriously and make certain that you obtain the most from the opportunities that lie ahead. BOARD OF EDUCATIO Top row: Trustees, John Maynard, Robert Jones. Signed, sealed and delivered this ninth day of May, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven in the presence of I, M, Thru I, C, U, R, Knot CLASS PROPHECY I, Dolores Ensign, a registered pharmacist, being of sound mind, I think, shall relate to you the strange events which happened on my journey to Bombay, lndia. I was in my laboratory on board the U.S.S, Sunshine. It all began when Don Carson walked in. He wanted to get some Analgesis Antipyretic for Harley Croff. You see Harley was fatally ill. He had a cold. Don, a lawyer, was going to Bombay to defend Dick Hoffius, who had killed a cow. He had become ravenously hungry for beef. Don met Nellie Dailey on the Substratospheric Airlines: she was the hostess. She told Don that the Pilot was Bob Talbott, so he went to see for himself. When he saw him, they talked over good times for a while and then they played a 50 minute game of chess. Just as they were finishing the game, the plane pulled into the airport. While Don and I were talking over old times, the ship left port. Ten minutes later we hit a Northern breeze coming at 150 m. p.h. We slowed down to 100 knots because of the slight waves of 86 feet. The fog was thick enough to slice and put on a plate. We did get a little off course. So unknown to us, we were .traveling toward Hawaii. Something else we didn't know was that an unchartered naval ship was making its way to San Diego. It was co-captained by Jerry Carson and Clare Bottorff. They had made the Admiral a little angry when they borrowed some of his hula skirts, and took his favorite dancer, Ellen Nixon, with them, It was little wonder that we crashed. When I came to, I was in a large city surrounded by a huge bubble. I looked around and saw Don, Jerry, and Clare. The first living things we saw were some strange creatures that looked like something from the Black Lagoon. Strangely enough they could speak our language. They took us around the city. At the telecasting station, we saw Betty Rumsey, Ioe Robinson, Elwood De Brot and Lawrence Herin. They told us they had learned how ro see what went on in the other world. All they could see was water around them. Next we went to the gate of the bubble. Jan Herin and Georgie Tanner were there, armed with spears and a few water bombs to keep the whales and sharks away. In their laboratory we saw Judy Morse teaching little children all about the beautiful fish swimming around the bubble. In a room next to Judy, Darwin Gronso and Art Balcom were making something that smelled like rotten eggs, looked like a mess and tasted like plums, apricots, and oranges, mixed together. We went to the restaurant where Ioyce Gronso and Gale Eitniear served us fried octopus, sea juice, pickled sea weed, and whale wine. Well, we were at the end of an electric lighted day. We slept at a boarding house owned by Kathy Clark and Darlene Vander Leest. We were awakened by a cow horn which Chuck Baxter blew. Our breakfast was made and served by Nancy Hills. It consisted of shark eggs, more whale wine, and some other concoction that l couldn't figure out. We went to see the most beautiful house in the city. It was made of shells of all colors, and above the doors and windows were scores of natural pearls. It belonged to Charlene Fairchild and Gary Rumsey. This ends my story. We are looking for a way to get back to the top of the earth. Ifanyone should find this note, please come and look for us. We're getting awfully home- sick.
