By sixTh grade we were The acknowledged leaders of grade school. When The boys were dismissed early Tor sTreeT paTrol, They would generously permiT Their TavoriTe girls To carry Their books back To homerooms. OuTsTanding ThaT year was our sixTh grade chorus. ThroughouT The grades we .parTicipaTed in all The music TesTivals. Remember how proud we were aT our Indian dress and cookie cosTumes Tor Hansel and GreTel ? SevenTh grade Tound us in high school aT lasT. One oT our greaTesT Thrills was The assembly each week. The prospecT oT being losT in The halls and laTe Tor classes. especially Mr. Miller's or Mr. Downin's, Terrified us. Our TirsT social aTTair as a class was a l'lallowe'en parTy in The gym in eighTh grade. AT The close oT ThaT vear, JoAnn Magrini and Orie Grove halT walked, halT Tripped up The sTeps in The TheaTer To receive The eighTh grade American Legion award. Our freshman class expanded To receive The asseTs of TwenTy-Three ouTlying school disTricTs. Algebra was as much a foreign language To us as The LaTin classes To which we were exposed. From The wheel of iunior high we became The lowly sophomores aT senior high. We Then made a decision as To our course and wenT our separaTe ways To The vocaTional, commercial, or academic building. Board washing and eraser clapping aTTer school were abandoned Tor parTicipaTion in The many exTra-curricular acTiviTies. ln our iunior year we capably prepared Tor our role as sen- ors by becoming more adepT aT The delicaTe arT of hooking classes. As our senior year progressed, all The won- derful exTra-curricular acTiviTies gracefully re- placed any noTions oT sTudy ThaT mighT have survived Tram lower grades.
