After one year retirement A. E. Joachim has again taken up the baton to direct and teach band, making his twelfth year of band teaching at Her- reld. Fifty-seven members make up the concert band, with 28 in the Junior band. This band continued its superior rat- ing streak in 1950 which was started in 19 2. Girls chorus has proven to be a pop- ular activity for the glrla of Herreid High. For the past few years almost all the girls have taken part. An elimina- tion is always held before the spring music contest. This year Phyllis Schmidt was elected president, Shirley Goehring, vice pres- ident and Darleen Fenske librarian. Every year a mixed chorus Is selected from the girls and boys glee clubs. This chorus also competes in the con- test. 19
