Johnna Lyons and Judy Niday, or the J 8: J connection, have excited crowds everywhere with their two-woman show. The two have put on an amazing exhibition by scoring 179 of Hoover's 237 points so far this season. Lyons is leading the squad with a 18.3 average while Niday is hitting at a 13.7 pace. J 8: J started off the Huskies season by almost single-handedly beating the Nitro Wildcats. Although the girls lost to Stonewall Jackson 39- 34, Niday and Lyons kept their torrid pace by scoring 15 and 11 points respectively. Hoover then came back to beat Charleston Catholic 43-25 by using a sterling defense as shown by the stoppage of Irish star Beth Kogoy to only eight points. J 8: J combined for 33 of the Huskies' points with Niday pumping in a career high total of 20 points. Lyons then scored 60 points in the next two games during victories over Sissonville and South Charleston. The 48-26 romp over Sissonville was highlighted by the girl's sprawling defense and hustling play. Lyons then tallied a career high 36 points while also putting on a free throw exhibition by knocking in 14 and 15 attempts. So beware Kanawha Valley Conference, the J 8: J tandem is on the prowl, and they are hunting for a KVC Championship. Other members of the starting lineup include Susan Cowley, Chris Jones, and Sherry Cox. Five home games remain. They are, Dunbar on Oct. 31, Charleston on Nov. 7, Nitro on Nov. 9, Stonewall on Nov. 14, and Sissonville on Nov. 23. The four away games are, East Bank on Nov. 2, Catholic on Nov. 16, St. Albans on Nov. 21, and South Charleston on Nov. 30. Following a loss to George Washington, 31-18, J 8z J came back to nip Dupont 45-43 when the Panthers missed a last second field goal attempt. Lyons and Niday again combined to carry the load in both of the games. Charleston then dealt the Huskies their third loss of the season as a tough defensive per- formance was being administered to the J 8a J Connection.
