huskies are a competitive team By Ann Porta Sz Troy Acree Distance running, sprints, discus, and the shot put - all parts of the age old sport of track and field. The Huskie track team is sound in all of these departments and is looking forward to a good season. Coaches Fred Myers and Mike Chandler have both expressed op- timism concerning the upcoming season. We're going to have a very competitive team, states Coach Myers. He also says, the distance team seems to be doing a very good job. Billy Belcher, Danny Rhodes, and Steve Kennedy should do well along with Danita Mullins, Sue Bair, June Casto, Donna Parker, and Dena Ashley, who also show promise. Our sprinters are showing a lot of talent, as do our people in the field events. Coach Chandler thinks the running Huskies will be very successful. We have a lot of runners returning and a lot of new, good talent coming in. We have reasons to ve very optimistic. Coach Myers will be coaching the boys, Coach Chandler, the girls, and Coach Myers will have the distance runners, while Coach Chandler will have the sprinters. Returning distance runners for the girls will be seniors Danita Mullins and Donna Parker, juniors June Casto and Sue Bair, and sophomore Dena Ashley is a new addition. Re- turning sprinters are seniors Paige Parish, Su Conrad, and Terri Allen, and juniors Peggy Sharp, Ann Porta, and Susan Cowley. New sprinters will be Cheryl Neal and Johnna Lyons, seniors, Susan Jack, Tinki Knight, Treva Mullins, Michele Ringoot, Valerie Piercy, Bebe Porta, and Kim Lyons, all sophomores. Returning distance runners for the boys are Steve Kennedy, Danny Rhodes, and Billy Belcher, seniors, John Bird, Dennis Strawn and Dewitt Miller, juniors. New distance runners will be Greg Swiney, a junior, and J .B. Woodrum, a sophomore. Kelly Cole, a senior, and Scott Taylor, Andy Newhouse, Kelly Walker, and Tom Shafer, juniors, are returning sprinters for the boys. New sprinters are Brad Keenan, Allen Dean, and Delbert Meadows. Sophomores Ron Mitchell, Don Lucas, and Mickey Farmer are also upcoming sprinters. In the field events for the girls, Qshot and discus! seniors Poncho Richards and Sherry Cox will be returning.
