:Xs we, the senior class of 1954 stand on the threshold to the future, we recall tIre nremories of our five year at Henry Grady High School with mixed emotions .-Xlthough the portals to the world are flung open be fore us, we should never forget the occasions that have been important to us during our high school careers It is the memories of these that will stem the tide of loneliness in the years to come, and will keep th beauty and wonder of youth fresh in our minds for ever. As we recapitulate the events of our Senior year, we remember the thrill of ordering Senior ring those coveted badges of honor. As we proudly showed off our new possessions, we pitied the poor under classrnen who were not entitled to wear these emblems of seniority. To guide us through the year we elected as Senior officers: Mike Trotter, president, Reva Hirsch, vicc presidentg and Kemp Haynes, secretary. The co-presi dents of the school, always chosen from the senior class, were Martha Grizzard and Sidney Reese Tracing the events of our Senior year we next find the annual Sabre Presentation on October 28th 1953 This rite of the Henry Grady R. O. T. G. was held rn the stadium. For the sixth consecutive year, Grady Battalion has won the Honor Ribbon awarded for Irigh ratings in citywide military competition College Day, with its representatives from approxi mately sixty colleges, was an important landmark in the march of events. The helpful representatives aided us in crystallizing our nebulous ideas concerning col Iege, careers, et Cetera. The football season of 1953 will always hold a prominent position in the annals of Grady's history Starting with the Marist game, the Grady' Grey Knightsw, co-captained by ,Ieff Davis and Mike Trot ter, went on a rampage that culminated in their win ning the A.-X State Championship at Macon. At th final social event of the football season, Sondra Dunn was selected as 1953 Gridiron Queen The election of senior superlatives was heralded by the jingling bells worn by' the nominees. The super latives assembly consisted of a skit presented by T111 HIOI' IS Soutzcrncr that rntroduccd the candrdatc I I mitted them to demon trate to the vvhole tudent bodv then fitness for the title The annual Lhrrstma formal, preceding a vvonder ful seventeen day vacation vva enjoyed by enror and underclassmen alike The Inter Llub council spon ored the dance, which was hcld at the Sky Room of the Municipal auditorium Bac at school, we tackled the first item on ch acadcmrc agenda, planning hedulc for tl f I semester Thr year, a new ystem was rnaugur rtccl at Grady High a method which enabled tuclc nt t choose the sequence of their classe Everyone forgot hrs trials and trrbulatrorr and vvc nt to have a wonderful time at the Silver Slipper Hal' Pat Hammond and Jeff Davis wc re cho cn to rc rgn a frnderella ancI Irrnce Charming with two court attendants chosen from each class Ic vel The long awartecl spring holiday arrrvcd ind frady students departed for much needed vacation to Mramr or the Islands After several rnagrc days of fun and relaxation, everyone returned to chool to complete the final weeks of the semester X thc days sped by with bewrldcrrng aI rcrrly vcc became more aware of the fact that everything vvc vvere dorrrg was for the last time Ilhe bcautrfn spring days brought with them our Bovvery I rrty and our last Sponsors Day Then, before we knew rt, graduation was just around the corner, and we were caught up rn a frcnvv of hustle and bustle to prepare for the great event Xt first we were too busy with practrcc, invitation parties, dresses, and tuxedos to realrve the import or the occasion, but with the final awarene s of rt rgnrfr cance canre a feeling of regret On May 20th l9r4, when we received our covc tc c' Irplomas, we felt dedicated to uphold the hnc tan dard vvhrch these diplomas repre ented X v e 5, forth into lrfe, let us alway hold the ideal of ou -Xlma Nfater aloft, a a candle, to rllumrnate our patn and to guide u rn the way of enlightenment 1nd rrghteou ne that our beloved chool uphold I C t - f ' ' .
