Led by Coach Guy Davis, the basket-shooting opponent- smearing, game-winning Warri- ors racked up a good-looking scoreboard for the 1979 season. They refused to give up one game in the district with a final record of 12 wins and no losses. In the past three years, the famous Henrico Warriors have dominated the District scene with 32 straight wins. Their toughest opponents were the Hermitage Panthers, who have been bitter rivals of the Warri- ors for several years. However, the Warriors beat them again, winning the District Tourna- ment. Upper Right: Richard Sledd puts every- thing he’s got into a tricky jump shot. Lower Left: With his usual flair, Fon- taine Lewis goes up for two. Lower Right: Jerry Frostick takes a well- deserved break from the action. Moving Like Never Before Coach Davis started the sea- son off with six regulars, but lost Richard Sledd, a forward, after only 10 games because of an injury. Fontaine Lewis and Eric Claiborne then became the two starting forwards with Jerry Frostick and Reggie John- son guarding and Darryll Jack- son playing center. The Warri- ors turned one important game over to Maggie Walker in the Regional Tournament. The Warriors had beaten Walker in the regular season. This was the fifth consecutive year that Hen- rico made it to the Regional Tournament, and this loss was a low point to all faithful Hen- rico fans.

Henrico’s youngest gridders — the 9th grade squad, were under the able instruction of Head Coach Nelson Elam, and assistant coaches Dale Svor and Gary Criswell. Unfortunately the team had a disappointing season with a record of (1-5). Their toughest opponents were Fairfield and Freeman. Many of the 9th grade players show promise, however, among these being the tri-captains Glenn Thomas — Guard, Jimmy Har- less — Quarterback, and Keith Roberts — Halfback. As these players gain experience and grow older, Henrico may look forward to many winning sea- sons. 169
