164 The iar and the Restless “I've only got thirteen seniors on my squad, and thirty-five sophomores. I’m going to have to play three or four sopho- mores and they tell me an old rule of thumb is you're going to lose one game for every sopho- more.” This statement, made by Coach John Brown at the start of the 1978 season, might have seemed a bit pessimistic. This would appear especially true after an opening game win over Meadowbrook. However, the wisdom of Coach Brown shone through in the next three games as the Warriors were defeated by Lee-Davis (for sophomore Kenny Carr), Thomas Jefferson (for sophomore Kevin Sprouse), and George Wythe (for sopho- more Timmy Holmes). Finally, 1st row: Tri-Captains T. Bowles, P. Bro- addus, F. Wilcox. 2nd row: L. Nunnally, ‘M. Gregory, B. Kelly, P. Keran, L. Wray, B. Mahanes, J. Beaver, E. Farley, K. Owens, P. Fritz, G. Sprouse, M. Perkins, D. Ostrowski. 3rd row: T. Mathews, M. Farmer, L. Lutto, S. Nunn, R. Edwards, A. Talbott, G. Latney, S. Carter, J. Bart- gis, A. Lynch, N. Curtis, J. Peele, D. Palmer. 4th row: C. Nash, M. Young, D. Jackson, R. Ziglar, T. Tharp, T. Holmes, D. Moore, D. Estes, T. Seward, M. Nor- rell, J. Thompson, W. Watts, T. Atkin- son, M. Hudgins, J. Farley. 5th row: M. Robertson, D. King, W. Johnson, C. there was a turnabout week when players wore their jer- seys, socks, and other equip- ment inside out, ending in a vic- tory over Patrick Henry. The Warriors’ overall record (4-6) does not do the team jus- tice. Many of the losses were to superior teams by narrow mar- gins, and the season was ended on a positive note — two con- secutive wins over J. R. Tucker and Thomas Dale. Also, it must be considered that there were only three returning starters — Wilcox, Bowles, and Perkins. Though this year’s record is the first losing one in ten years, Henrico may look forward to in the coming years the young and the restless becoming the expe- rienced and the victorious. Hughes, K. Covington, K. Sprouse, C. Lee, D. Cassidy, R. Hadra, R. Sheffleton, R. Mills, C. Mcray, J. Atkinson. 6th row: J. Lipscombe, R. Yurachek, S. Hornbar- ger, K. Carr, C. Klehr, T. Allen, S. Fag- gert, J. Brown, B. Mercier, P. Dowdy, S. Johnson, M. Giannetti.
