The Chess Club is sponsored by Mr. Gallier. They meet once every week to practice up on their moves. They have had two tournaments with John Mar- shall and expect to have one with Hermitage. AFS is the American Field Service. It is sponsored by Mrs. Shelton. The exchange student this year is Janet Knowles. The AFS club had a birthday party for Janet at Farrells. They also have a domestic exchange, sending a student to another place in the U.S. The XFS is the Exploration Field Science. Their sponsor is Mr. Mathis. Among the activities the Latin Club participated in this year was the Latin Convention in Northern Virginia. In order to raise money, t he club sold T- shirts and ran the concession stands during the Girls’ Basket- ball games. The sponsor of the club is Ms. Carter and the presi- dent of the club is Charlie Fleet. The German Club is partici- pating in many activities this year. Hosting the State German Convention and going to the Alpine Song and Dance Festival are among these events. Handle With Care Sponsored by Ms. Stevens, the small but active Red Cross club is involved in many serv- ice projects. Led by Debra Chisenhall, the club made Christmas stockings and Valentine cups for deprived children. The Safety Club is an organization to bring safety to the school and the community.
