II. Students today — — I think they are fantastic, but little is done to show the positive side of students. — Mentally and emotionally they are the same as usual. Outwardly, they try to grow up and act cool too soon. — They are smarter as a whole, but lazier than 10 years ago. The motivated today are much sharper, but the percen- tage of motivated students is smaller than ever! — Work load of teachers is increasing both by class size and paper work. This does not indicate improvement in stu- dent learning! — Social development needs much less emphasis. Academic achievement is the purpose of the school. — Too often we change for the sake of changing. Many good ‘‘old-time’’ trends or methods are abandoned. — Students are more open and will express their feelings freely today. On the negative side, however, they are not very concerned about education. They take it very lightly. — Most of them are great! — They show a lack of self-discipline. They have been allowed too much freedom of choice in mat- ters they are not mature enough to deal with.
