E.R.A. faces Virginia govern- ment; Panama Canal splits Con- gress; Elvis Presley dies; H.E.W. recommends quota system; Crime rate rises; Farmers strike; Hubert Humphery dies; Coal miners strike; Palestinans and Israelis fight; Black majority takes rule in Khodesia; Cost of living rises; Bing Crosby dies; Unemployment rises; Guy Lombardo dies; Vio- iio fmecciOOlSminereuses a... The list goes on and on. The politi- cal, economic, and social aspect of American life seem to have leveled out to a shaky equilibrium. And the future is questionable. A very important factor con- cerning the future has been over- looked — the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. As long as there is a younger generation with new ideas and innovations, there is a hope for the future. It 1s a circle; a generation comes of age and improves the world, but they also make problems for the world. Then posterity takes control. They correct the mistakes of the last generation, and they leave prob- lems for others to solve. The time of decisions now con- fronts us; around every corner, there exists a world that must be built, and we are the architects. Our past generations have estab- lished foundations on which, we the youth, seek to continue grow- ing and learning, making this country an active part of the world. Our generation will influ- ence government. We will make new discoveries, settle interna- tional disputes, control rising costs, and more. We will bring America to its height of power, prestige, and glory. As we begin our role as active citizens of America, we should not look at the problems, but at their solutions. With God's help, we can lead our country through the bad and towards the better. Sharon Dunning Editor Fditorial 151
