ho's Homecoming for? This was the question that permeated the weeks before Homecoming Day ever arrned. The Student Senate wanted to take over the selection of the royalty and make the day more tor the student. The football team felt Homecoming should honor them since it is centered around a football game and they should keep the right to pick the roxalty Then, there were the alumni. Despite the stir, Homecoming royalty was chosen hx the football team, with the Senate bowing out graciously. Heart and kex, as usual, did the planning and carry- ing out of Homecoming. V The week began with coronation cere- monies and a bonfire pep rally held on Thursdax night, At this time, Queen Dot Stewart and her court xx ere presented to the student body. At the bonfire the Phi Lambs and Alpha Sigs began the vigil of the oil drum and made sure the Reddie Heartbeat could he heard through the rest of the week, Fritlat night the rock group, if Lighthouse, presented a Concert in Day Armory. Homecoming Day dawned bright and clear as alumni, students, and fans began to turn out for the game. Early in the morn- ing the classes of '23 and '38 held reunions at Henderson House. Afterwardsthey were invited to a pep rally in front of the Presi- dent's home with the royalty and students. The annual parade was not held this year because of organizations' lack of time and too little money. lnstead, the royalty rode in a caravan of golf carts through the cam- pus to the Presidents home to enjoy the pep rally. The Reddies took the field with a lot going for them - the football squad, under the direction of some six different coaches since 1905, had never compiled over an 8-O record. This win would lift the Reddies overthe best seasonal mark in Reddie loot- ball history. It was a close battle, but the Red Men won the game, 28-21 . Everyone left happy, except the Bears, - 4- T '?':i'-.efi-F1 0. m Y : Ji 'M l, Tl wh' -bf-'? ,' 52. ff' . . ,li . ' ,HH Q15 x' v ',a, . Jig i n 1: th- ki' gJ,' n-,.,:-Q NM f - . -A gg fr . sg-sy, .
